Toroktoazura

Toroktoazura is a star lifting complex built around the blue giant Katomunsung.

Purpose / Function

Like most gaussian structures, the Toroktoazura serves multiple functions.

Baryonic Matter Well

Being a star lifting operation, the primary function was to extract mass off of the host star. This contained primarialy hydrogen which could be used to fuel starships and run fusion or antimatter reactors, but also heavier elements which could be used in construction. The station maintained immense stockpiles of resources. Often needed resources would be exported by way of large subspace capable freighters elsewhere in the galaxy.

Atomic Alchemy Facility

The active support rings wrapped around the star's photosphere could be utilized to create heavy elements such as the synthesis of sizable quantities of Arsium or fissile materials for the first stage of direct-fusion warheads. (Or any traditional material that was needed). This process was energy intensive and not suitable for bulk production (particularly in the case of Arsium) but allowed the facility to operate at partial capacity independent of mining operations.   These colliders could also be configured to create some forms of exotic matter such as the quantum-lattice substrate used in sophisticated computer memory or the exotic particle components of photonic crystals needed for holographic and hard light technologies. With Toroktoazura being the largest producer of such materials anywhere in the galaxy.

Shipyard

The largest shipyard of the GDSF and offical headquarters of the galactic fleets, the primary station had immense production capabilities and huge atmospheric pressurized hangars for producing and servicing starships along with deep stockpiles of munitions and replacement components.

Stellar Shielding System

The orbital rings surrounding the star helped to mediate coronal ejections by manipulating the magnetic field of the star. This helped to protect the surrounding Katomunsung system from dangerous solar flares.

Architecture

Stellar Core

Built on the largest known star (by mass) in the galaxy at 384 standard solar masses at the time of completion. The star is still in its main sequence believed to be only 500,000 standard galactic years old and has a high metallicity.

Orbital Rings

The star is encircled by 16 immense orbital rings. These contained the supercolliders used for atomic alchemy and functioning as the active support system. Charged particles would be shot around the inside of the rings via magnetic accelerators balancing the gravitational force of the star. Secondary magnets would be used to interface with the star's photosphere to control and prevent the star from ejecting large amounts of mass and radiation elsewhere in the system. The manipulations were done such that a huge majority of the mass was ejected towards the collection station.   The near side of the rings was covered in an array of highly reflective mirrors. These also worked to provide a small amount of support to the rings through radiation pressure, though even without these mirrors the entire structure was actively cooled by neutrino heat sinks preventing it from being melted by the intense heat of its parent star.

Channeling Rings

The channeling rings were a set of three successively smaller magnetically suspended rings designed to focus the stream of matter lifted off the star to the collection station.

Collection Station

The collection station was an immense station where the matter stream was collected by way of an immense magnetic funnel to be processed, containing most of the production facilities and habitable space in the facility. An entirely artificial construct the station was constructed of an immense immense active support conduits and redundant fusion reactors to keep it from collapsing under its own gravity.

Defenses

Armor

Octoazura was covered in immense modular armor plates underlaid by a triangular grid of charged active support conduits, fusion reactors, photokinetic barrier projectors, and neutrino heat sinks. Ecosystems of drones maintained and repaired the modular plates. The bulk building material of the exterior was a jagtooth composite of graphene and Muran-456 approxomately five kilometers thick. As the structure did not need to move the armor was optimized to utilize standard elements with a high universal abundance due to the sheer quantities needed. (Graphene being carbon and Muran being mostly Iron alloy compacted under immense artificial gravity fields into a hyper-strong state). Arsium was not used in the armor due to the sheer quantities that would be required to armor such a large construct. The outermost layer was still coated in Tazutun to provide protection against the stellar radiation and wear and tear on the surface.

Gravitational Manipulation Core

Based off Hoytachian technology, the collection station contained an immense manipulatable core of artificial gravity projectors. These could manipulate celestial bodies in the greater Katomunsung system (albeit with the limitation of light lag), help to prevent the structure from collapsing in the event of a major active support failure or move dangerous phenomenon such as black hole weapons away from the station. The effect decayed farther from the core, but in theory even a weaponized relativistic planet would be deflected off course or dropped into the star.

Interdiction Defense

Containing an interdiction core identical to that of a Paragon-Class dreadnought the station could project an 11-dimensional hyperspherical preon hypercrystal lattice with a realspace radius of up to 9 light-minutes interdicting all known forms of superluminal travel.

Defense Fleet

Being the headquarters of the GDSF, a sizable defense fleet would be stationed in system. In the event of a protracted siege, the station could field tens of thousands of capital grade warships and virtually bottomless reserves of munitions and drones, and be producing new equipment and ships throughout a siege.

The Brimstone Sphere

A large sphere consisting of trillions of asteroids ranging from around a hundred meters to a few kilometers (primarily silicate and nickel-iron) which are either just lumps of unneeded material, native to the system or have been towed in from elsewhere. They have been arranged in a spherical shell a few light-minutes from the star on orbits which are carefully maintained to avoid collisions. Most such asteroids are merely lumps of rock but a small percentage contain hidden traps such as interdiction systems, detection systems linked to quantum-threaded communications, missiles or large antimatter bottles or bomb-pumped lasers.

History

Construction of Toroktoazura has lasted two thirds of the dominion's lifetime. First proposed during the 414 reformations as a capital military-industrial complex. Construction began 3 years later, in 417DE. In 858DE, the collection station was completed. It was then able to begin harvesting materialsfrom the star at partial effectiveness and bootstrapping its own production capabilities. From there it was able to construct the primary orbital rings and channeling rings using mostly materials harvested from the station.   During the 89th Courdeel Incursion in 1024DE, the orbital ring structure and channeling rings were destroyed by several attacking courgaten Koaegtoma and the collection station was heavily damaged forcing these components to be rebuilt after they had just been completed.   Upon being reconstructed post 89th incursion the structure's blueprints were altered with the ecosystem of machines and many of the standard components involved for its construction being heavily modified, standardized and optimized. The orbital ring structure was made almost entirely automated.
