SC2020 - The Mountain Men

Deep in the world edge mountains is a hidden society with advanced technology. In the mountains are ore that allow for advanced technology, far beyond the scraps of what can be found in the great cities. In facts, the leaders of the great cities are all under the control of the Mountain Men, that is the reason that no-one go exploring in the world edge mountains. This advanced society use their technology to rule the entire Dark Side.

Historical Basis

The Engineering Union is one of the few cross city political powers and they do hold a lot of influence, but not because they have access to advanced technology, merely because they keep the current technology alive. That said, the Engineering Union does not like the idea of mountain exploration, as they fear if metal and other materials become readily available, new technology can be produced and they will lose their power.

Variations & Mutation

Parental Aid

It is used by parents near the world edge mountains to scare their kids into behaving, as they tell a variation, where the Mountain Men use invisible flying eyes (drones) to observe the surrounding area. Either they capture and eat children who go of into the wilderness alone; or they check to see if they are nicely behaved and bring them gifts; or they observe the kidsa nad take the smart ones away to be trained to be mountain men of their own.

Hidden Lands

The Mountain Men have enormous riches, because there is a whole new continent on the other side of the World Edge Mountains. A continent rich with metals, fertile soil and everything else that is good. When people disappear, it is because they have been taken as slaves to work the lands on the other side.
