Properties
Material Characteristics
Very similar to your usual leathers, but it has more of an unnatural colour to it, like the crisp ocean has been woven into the surface of the material. When the hide has initially been skinned, it has a clear, very turquoise glow about it. Once the material has been worked a bit, that turquoise colour fades to a more muted, darker blue.
Physical & Chemical Properties
Unlike your typical leathers, where they tend to be warm to the touch, helgarian hide is surprisingly cool. The hide is also very smooth, making it extremely difficult to scuff or tear.
Origin & Source
Helgarian hide is taken off of the helgaris shark, a species of shark native to the Midstone Sea. There is a very high population of helgaris shark and the sharks themselves are extremely large creatures. One shark can net 3-5 sets of leather armour, and 2-4 well made saddles depending on the size.
History & Usage
Everyday use
The helgarian hide is mainly used to make leather armour and saddles. It's durability offers little more than usual, cheaper leathers when it comes down to smaller items such as pouches and belts. However, that same durability makes it perfect for armour and saddles. It is far more difficult to scuff than normal leather, and everyday usage will be unlikely to see it wear to the same effects. It is also slightly sturdier, so a stray sword will be less inclined to cut through the fabric than normal leather.

Odor
Similar enough to most leathers that it would be hard to distinguish from smell alone, but it will still have a slight lingering smell of the sea.
Taste
If you were to bite into it you'd get a rubbery texture, almost impossible to chew, and the taste itself would be like trying to eat extremely over cooked and charred meat.
