Chronicler's Stylograph

After the Dragon War, many Chroniclers came out of it with severe and lasting injuries that inhibited a great deal of their work recording history. Lord Thenik Marduke, Secretary to the Council, had suffered severely broken bones and damaged nerves which prevented him from being able to hold a quill or pencil, or have his handwriting be legible anymore. With the help of some Academy contacts, he devised a Stylograph that could be attuned to a person, and allow dictation to be written down in perfectly legible handwriting. The Chroniclers saw infinite possibilities and funded more research and development themselves into making a standard issue for scribes and field researchers a like.   Over time, several styles of Stylograph were created. Most remained a magical quill and handwriting implement, but other, more formal styles were adopted by scribes who entered tomes into the Library proper. Large, almost mechanical versions became the norm in each Guild, allowing all books to be written in the exact same, easy to read style, making the Library far more accessible to the general public. Smaller versions can be found in government places, where record keeping is vital. In Marza, for example, the Secretary of the Council became a position of great import, managing and maintaining the Stylograph and insuring the written record matched the vocal records.   Several variations on the stylograph can be found around the world. A version of the quill was developed to allow a blind person to read through a mental link to the Stylograph, while those that cannot speak can attune with a psychic link to the item. Others combine both writing and reading, used mainly for translators to research foreign languages. Some of the most prized have the ability to comprehend languages built into it, and are almost exclusive kept by high ranking Archivists and trusted field researchers. There is rumored to be some in the Thieves' Guild that can forge documents, but this has never been proven, as the magics involved with creating them are intended to preserve truth, and have measures built in to prevent tampering.   The magics involved with making the item are so precise, peculiar, and unstable it is not uncommon for a Stylograph to develop quirks, and some say, personalities from extended periods of use. Many seem to take on characteristics of their primary owners, and develop an almost pet-like relationship with their owner. Those that are used by several people throughout it's service take on less of a personality and more pick up various stylistic quirks, with heavier or lighter brushstrokes, shakey writing, and spacing issues from the large, mechanical versions.
