Pareia's Bliss

A condition commonly seen in those who have ingested the seeds of the Pareia flower.

Transmission & Vectors

The condition cannot be passed to any who have not ingested the seeds. The only known way to develop Pareia's Bliss it to actively ingest the seeds of the plant.

Causes

Caused by the release of potent psychoactive compounds within the seeds of the Pareia plant upon digestion which then enter the patient's blood through the stomach.

Symptoms

• Muscle Relaxation
• Slurred Speech
• Poor Memory
• Sclera of the eyes have a distinct purple tinge
• Afflicted individual is very sleepy
• No desire to eat/drink

Treatment

Pareia's Bliss usually wears off after 2-3 hours by itself, however some cases can persist for days at a time depending on the amount of seeds ingested and the individual's physiology.
A powder made from dried Gerkan Mushrooms can be administered orally to reverse the effects in severe cases. However, due to the appetite suppressing effects of the condition this often proves difficult if the patient is uncooperative.

Prognosis

Whilst not inherently dangerous malnutrition can be a dangerous side effect of severe cases of Pareia's Bliss due to individual's being unable or unwilling to find sustenance.

Prevention

Do not eat the seeds of the Pareia plant.

Epidemiology

The condition is not contagious.

History

Pareia plants are native to the territory of Vas in the South. It is thought that merchants from Vas brought the seeds to the mainland in the early days of the Age of the Zenith and found that when consumed the seeds produced this effect.

Cultural Reception

Individuals displaying symptoms of Pareia's Bliss are often looked down on as weak-minded and foolish individuals by civilised communities as the seeds are highly addictive and cost the livelihoods and often the lives of addicts. Often found in poorer areas "Seed Gardens" are dens where individuals go to experience Pareia's Bliss with others in secret.
