Crag Goat

Crag Goats are the monstrous version of the typically diminutive goats that inhabit the world of Galbuus. Native to the cold peaks of the southern ranges, a dense fur coat covers most of their bulky form. Adept to the cold climate and quite temperamental, Crag Goats shut down when brought out of their cold mountain climbs. Possessed by a languid sluggishness in hotter climates, only the Dwarves of the South have domesticated them in any functional capacity. Crag Goats are fiercely loyal creatures, imprinting onto whoever raised them when they were kids. Raising a Crag Goat is part of the right of passage for the Dwarf Rangers who serve in the mountainous reaches of the Dwarven Kingdom.    Those without Crag Goats are viewed as lesser rangers, especially as they grow older. This perception is due to a cultural story that has trickled to nearly every facet of Dwarven society. An ancient prophecy that was etched into stone by forces before Dwarves ever took their first steps into the world. This prophecy attests that in the stout peoples greatest moment of need a great hero will ride into battle astride the back of a hulking goat and sunder the malicious forces aligned against them.   The dwarves have used these animals in various capacities within the cold and unforgiving reaches of their high peaked mountains. The Crag Goats agility and precision makes them ideal pack animals to carry goods and supplies to the isolated ranging outposts sheltered away high in mountain overlooks. A few of the more remote outposts have even raised livestock herds as no other animal that was able to reach these treacherous locations were able to survive the harsh climates. Fewer still have been known to ride these Crag Goats as mounts into battle. The natural bulk of the Crag Goat coupled with the mass of an armored dwarf riding atop it making the tandem pair into a veritable battering ram capable of breaking formations with ease.
