Lake demon

Lake demons are apex predators native to the underground Wilds of Munab.

Biology and appearance

Lake demons range from thirty to eighty feet long, though the eighty-foot specimen was an outlier and the usual upper bound is around fifty-five feet. Snakelike, their heads taper to a long snout. That snout can split apart as it balloons its mouth to catch prey, and the edge of the mouth is ringed with teeth.   A lake demon can glide using two crests that flare out to either side of its body. These tuck against its sides while not in use. Bioluminescent spots run down each side of a lake demon's body, mostly in one straight-ish line, but with a pattern unique to the individual.

Behaviour

Lake demons live in the underground sea in the caverns of Munab, spending their lives in semi-darkness. Like most creatures in the caverns, they have evolved bioluminescence.   Lake demons initially preyed upon floating sphere colonies (and sometimes beatwings, though those don't tend to travel over the water), leaping out of the sea and swallowing dozens before gliding back into the water. When siggeriths were introduced to the sea, however, a period of fierce competition emerged. Eventually the lake demon adapted an extremely potent venom and they retained their spot as the apex predator. They will sometimes hunt siggeriths, though this is a last resort due to their ability to fight back before the venom kicks in. A Siggerith is also much harder for lake demons to digest.
