Starsplitter

One of the greatest artifacts of modern humanity, Starsplitter is an ancient, uniquely patterned bladestaff. 
In physical form, it resembles the archaic Type I "Conquistador" pattern used by the first generation of Knights, being approximately twelve feet in total length, longer than contemporary designs. Its blade is longer, proportionally, being two feet long. Its haft retains the "tarnished brass" color ubiquitous of the period, aside from the blade, which was constructed of an unknown platinum/zeclin alloy. 
In function, Starsplitter acts as a normal bladestaff, though requires some adjustments due to its unconventional (by modern standards) design. The firing mechanism is located above the haft, within easy thumb's reach during combat. In fact, too easy; wielders must take care not to fire the weapon accidently. 
For that is where Starsplitter diverges from other, similar bladestaffs. Unlike other (contemporary and modern) bladestaffs, it is fitted with an incredibly powerful pulse generator; when activated, this energy is harnessed and used to enhance the weapon's physical structure, increasing durability and allowing the blade extra cutting power. The pulse generator's energies can be funneled through the blade, unleashing a massive blast of force, similar to galvanic lances but on a larger scale, enough to destroy large celestial bodies. 
The weapon first appeared during the Subjugation Era. Like many other artifacts, Starsplitter's date of creation, world of origin, intended wielder, and even its maker are all unknown. The first verified mention of it places it in the arsenal of King Lugh, and was one of the weapons seized by the Lord Knights during their rebellion. Starsplitter was wielded by the Lord Calyd during the Scorching of New Terra, and its enormous power was used to destroy Luna 2, shattering the planetoid and raining untold destruction on the surface. Following the Scorching and the founding of the Knightly Orders, Starsplitter became the ultimate symbol of authority within the Knights Shikari, and is their most powerful weapon. 
Strangely, Starsplitter appears to be sentient. The weapon can "read" its wielders, and choose whether or not to activate the pulsar generator, limiting its function purely to a bladestaff (this suggests a common origin with Kaldt, another of the Lugh weapons. The radically different designs and functions seem to preclude this, however). As such, the weapon remains within the Shikari Stronghold, unused, for centuries or millennia at a time, as no sitting Grandmaster will give an upstart the chance to remove them. Starsplitter's current wielder is Sigma, Lord of Jari and Grandmaster of the Knights Shikari.
