Altheria
The Legendary Island
Legends tell of the holy island Altheria, a paradise filled with treasures and riches. The Altherians, its inhabitants, are said to have been touched by the World-Mother herself. Stories are filled with their praise, citing golden hair and glowing skin, vivid eyes and bright smiles. Some believe that they knew nothing but happiness and plenty, for there was never strife where the World-Mother touched the ground. Others call it the place where the world began, where the first seed of something was sown by Althea. Yet, none have ever located this island. Many expeditions have tried and failed, following ancient texts and wild claims of glimpses on the horizon of a glowing island among the waves. One story about the island tells of the island sinking beneath the waves, taking its inhabitants with it to a watery grave. A popular image in many books on the subject is what many call Altheria's seal: a hand, reaching out of the waves towards what appears to be the symbol of Althea, underneath a glowing sun. Despite the many failures of expeditions to locate this island, at many a port to this day one can find some rich noble or daring adventurer looking for crewmen to set out on their own expedition in the belief that they will be the one to finally discover this island of stars.The Tree of Time
It is said that Altheria was built in the branches of a vast, ancient tree; some believe the tree is as old as Galactus itself. This mythological tree is called the Tree of Time. Ancient legends speak of its branches hung with lights like stars and wide avenues carved into the branches. The houses of the Altherians are said to have been grown by the tree itself, exactly to the needs of each one.The Altherians Because the island vanished so long ago, there are very few descriptions or images of its inhabitants. In the ancient texts found deep in the archives of the Citadel, the Altherians are depicted with white-gold hair, skin ranging from deep twilight blue to the purple lavender of dusk, and brightly-colored eyes of all hues.
