Maestro Odysseus (a.k.a. Od)

Odysseus is one of the crew of the ship Scyalla. He is a commando droid.

Name

Each type of droid have a particular naming scheme, with the commando droids being named from heros from the ancient Trojan Wars. This particular droid chose his own name as Odysseus, yet everyone calls him Od (he doesn't realise that they mean 'odd' and not just an endearment of his name).
When choosing the name Odysseus, he decided to look up the character from the holo-vids. He started to really enjoy adventure stories. From there, he fell in love with an ancient tactical game called 'D&D' and following famous holo-vids of game play, he discovered a character class called 'bard'. From there, his fate was sealed.
He completely fell in love with the concept of being a bard and wished for the ability to play the pan flute. He believes the ultimate bard experience is to play the pan flute and go on mighty adventures with his chosen adventuring party. This party consists of a (very reluctant) commando droid called Achilles, a heavy mech droid called Carl (that is always trying to collect organics and bring them aboard the ship to the dismay of the captain), and 'The Twins' (commonly seen playing tricks and geting into mischief). Odysseus believes this group of troublemakers and their mischief was the makings of a perfect adventuring party, now if only there was a way for him to play the pan flute.

Accidental Genius: Legend surrounding the creation of his mighty pan flute

While assisting the mechanics in a reparing of the ship after a nasty battle with the Droks Scavenger Clan, Odysseus was repairing piping to push oxygen from one part of the ship to another. In a ship primarily filled with robots, it's a system often overlooked and not prioritised. When he took note of the pressure valves, he had the idea of miniturising the pressure valves so that he could create his pan flute. After a lot of trial and error, he was successful at miniturising the valves at small enough sizes whilst still providing enough pressure to make the instrument function.

He became an accidental genius as the head mechanic noticed this valve in this instrument that was playing the annoying music by a very happy Od and realised these valves could be incorporated around the ship to minimise the space that the previous life support system was taking up on the ship. They could also be used to increase efficiency of many of the ships systems. Also, they were able to sell these miniture valves off-world for a lot of credits and supplies (that were much needed to enhance the ship). And these valves would eventually revolutionise the ship industry as larger ships could be made without the previous limitations of the old life support systems (that was now mitigated by this small valve design).

Physical Description

Body Features

Odysseus is a sturdy bipedal droid with two arms, bearing the usual marks of an old commando droid that has seen many battles. All of his plating bears the marks of many shrapnel and laser burns.

Apparel & Accessories

He has a green cape with hood. On occasion, he is also seen with a cowboy hat, especially on desert-like planets (switching the green cape for a sand cape).

Mental characteristics

Gender Identity

As Odysseus is a robot, he was not created with a gender. However, after the Awakening, many robots found themselves aligning with a particular gender, often influenced by significant influences before and after their Awakening. Odysseus saw himself aligning to the male gender due to the positive influence of the drill sergent that he was often assigned to before the Awakening. And after his Awakening, he found himself particularly drawn to the male bard characters of D&D.

Mental Trauma

Nothing seems to phase him.
However, he and his party are a recurring trauma to the captain (with a special mention to Carl and his organic collections).

Taboos

Never enter a bar (or bar like establishment) without ordering a drink. Despite the fact that he cannot physically drink it, he will still try to look like he is drinking it, "gulp, gulp, gulp".
