Bardruther Accelerator

The Bardruther Accellerator, also known as Bardruther Trench, is the longest and most consistently wide trench on the planet of Chanela. It has long predated even Carolina Aquillas rule and even the Onyx Verge Federation who use it now do not know of its origins.
The accellerator is attatched to the Orsievellan Drydock, a shipyard containing facilities to build even the largest types of ship. The purpose of the accelerator is to launch said ships, since the larger ones cannot operate alone in atmospheric conditions.

Architecture

The root of the Bardruther Accelerator lies around fifty meters below sea level in an urban-industrial sector of 0206-b: Chanela's surface. It functions using an electromagnetic 'bucket' which the payload is loaded into. This bucket is driven along a rail via electromagnetism which slowly accelerates to speeds up to 2 kilometers per second. This speed is achieved over the 100 kilometer rail which extends far beyond the edges of most of the planet's urbanized terrain and well above the surface. The end of the railgun is a staggering 8,000 meters above sea level. So high up that it requires special windbreaks and de-icing measures before launches.
A launch from the accelerator takes just under two full minutes to accelerate a payload up to its 7,000 kilometer per hour departure speed at an acceleration of 20m/s squared, incurring a consistent ~2g on the spacecraft. The end of the accelerator is elevated so as to launch the spacecraft on a suborbital trajectory, where it accelerates on its own power into orbit.
Post-launch, the bucket detatches from its payload, where it utilizes its momentum to glide to a landing at a nearby facility where it is recovered for reuse.
