Northern Furlancian Iron Badger

The badgers of Northern Furlancia were the first to discover and utilize the Iron ore. That story began when the badgers learned how to control fire from the rats. In their deep and dark dens they found the bright light gave their weak eyesight more clarity. They began to build their homes with long flues to pull the foul air out of the deep dwellings. Over time they burned the bones of their leftover meals to produce brighter and hotter fires.
One of the badgers built a mantle out of the stones pulled out while digging deeper into her home to expand for a growing family. As the days went on, she noticed that the stone seemed to develop a sheen. Curiosity got the best of her and she progressively tried to get similar rocks and see if she could repeat the process. Thus the first smelter came into existence.
Once the skill of drawing the metal out of the stone was mastered, the badgers then determined that it could be formed with enough heat and brute force into a highly conductive material, iron, with many uses. The secret of this was passed on only to her kin and through the generations as the skill was passed down it was expanded upon to include other metals. Eventually the badgers developed steel through trial and error, the strength without brittleness was invaluable and the secret was closely guarded.
The work of the badgers was recognized by the ancient Ursus as one of the most amazing developments as he saw the potential of iron to expand his vision. The Iron badgers were granted many favours, lands, and titles to help them develop and protect the knowledge that helped created the Kingdom of Furlancia.

Highly secretive and protective of themselves, their kin, and the traditions that they hold. All of the Iron badgers are proud and somewhat devoted to the ideals of the foundry. Working with the flaming metal has taught them that endurance, strength and skill are paramount to all things. 
Iron Badgers are highly respectful of all trades and guilds that share in these values. They have a healthy respect for the beaver and muskrats and the  values that they hold. Secretly they also have an appreciation for the Skreeling's and their workmanship at piracy as well.
