Emerald Barn, Town Settlement in Frontier Unwound | World Anvil

Emerald Barn, Town

Sharing the name of the Realm that it sits within, Emerald Barn is a small town that exists more as a landing point for entry into the Realm. Supplies from Earth are shipped through the Realmgate and gathered here so the local farmers and the winery can come into town and pick up their things.   Barely large enough to warrant a Sheriff and two deputies, it's a tight knit but welcoming community.   The layout is the epitome of frontier construction. One main street, a few side alleys, and all the large businesses facing the main road as it goes. Well, as large as the businesses get in a place like Emerald Barn.   It has one barroom, a single hotel, and a general store that is larger than necessary for a community of this size. It even has a schoolhouse for those interested.   Most of the towns working population, those that don't work in places like the barroom and school, work for the general store. More specifically, the depot that the general store manages for orders coming into the Realm.

Government

A mayor, Vivian McGowan, who may have once had political aspirations outside of the Realm but has since adapted to the rather relaxed way of life in the Realm, is in charge of the general day to day of the settlements running.   Underneath the mayor is a town council that meets bi monthly. Membership is pretty much the shop owners in town that feel politically studious.

Defences

The Corner Fort: A small, lighly fortified guard house built into a pre-existing structure in town. Houses the soldiers and armaments of the US army that are assigned to guard the realm. Houses around forty men.   The name is an amusing colloquialism for the barracks, given their size an location.

Industry & Trade

Other than general agriculture deals between the farmers and outside parties, the largest income of the Realm is Carolean Winery.   Established by the first settlers of the Realm and with deals with pretty much all the farmers that have set up since, the quality and volume of the winery's production is absolutely massive.

Points of interest

The Emerald Barn. The structure that gives the Realm it's name as built by the original settlers of the Realm, a Swedish immigrant family that made quite a fortune off the abundant foodstuffs of the area. It sits in a place of honor right in front of the Realmgate into Emerald Barn, bearing the colorful foliage that comes to cloak everything in the Realm.
Originally, the town was pretty much just a depot that deliveries of supplies could be kept at until the outlying farms could come and retrieve them.
