Damien is an artist working as a Navigator for The Bureau of Temporal Investigations. He's undisciplined and has a mind of his own, but he, most often than not, helps his team arrive in the correct time period.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

In his younger years, Damien was fit and even participated in small school athletic contests. Unfortunately, years of substance and alcohol abuse, unwillingness to exercise and fanatical commitment to continental breakfast, usually consisting of one small sandwich or a croissant with coffee, led to Damien becoming very feeble. One flesh would almost made him bleed to death, and he looks like he would die if he tried to do a couple of pull-ups.

Personal history

Damien didn't start out as bad as he is now. He was a sweet kid, though when in his teens, he used to hang out with punks. Mostly because of music. He had since straightened his ways, but not for long: when Sesostris found him, Damien didn't have a place to live and was roaming the streets of Paris, trying to find any kind of a gig that would keep him fed and warm. Before that, he was a promising young student, then a theoretical physicist, a good husband... Then a substance abuser and an alcoholic, a divorced man, a painter... Damien's life went downhill around the same time he had learned about Fringe. It's hard to tell if this revelation made his life go awry, or if it came to him after he lost it all.

Причём не понятно, было ли это откровение причиной того, что всё пошло наперекосяк, или же уже следствием.

From Damien's perspective, he still doesn't know how exactly Sesostris found him. One day the frenchman was just going up Champs-Élysées trying to get to the Seine river embankment, and then to Notre-Dame to check if the Sending Stone still didn't work after the fire back in 2019. And then, two men blocked his path and asked him if he wanted to work in a Time Traveling agency. Damien tried to run away, but they've caught up with him, calmed him down and explained that he'd help them Navigate Time and he'd earn good money, and he agreed.

Education

As a kid, Damien loved to paint, he could spend hours on it. But as much as he was fascinated by ways of conveying what we see, he also wanted to know how universe works. That prompted Damien to study Physics. He has even managed to land a job where he helped design ITER - a French experimental thermonuclear reactor. But after a stroke of bad luck, he lost it all: his work, his wife, in part - even his sanity. And what was left, got picked up by the Fringe Society. Existance of Time Travel was revealed to Damien, and he also started learning magic, however feeble it was in the modern age.

Employment

As a The Navigator in the Bureau, Damien uses a Huncher approach. The only mission he led before now was the one where they found Aiyana. His performance as the Navigator left Sesostris satisfied, and after the incursion there was no doubt that Damien will remain the group's Navigator, replacing Remy Dalton. In this capacity he's also the one to lecture the Bureau employees on history: Damien has an extensive knowledge of the subject.

Mental Trauma

At the bottom of the barrel Damien found out about the futility of being, which was easily dampened by various substances he was using. He'd say he did it because of the revelations the Universe gave him in the process, but his colleagues at the Bureau would say that he just was a junkie. Still, closer to 2020, he'd stop using heavy stuff and only alcohol remained as his eternal companion. Some would claim that Damien can't Navigate withoug being at least partially drunk.

Intellectual Characteristics

Not many human minds on Earth possess mental capabilities needed for spellcasting. One of the main feature one needs to memorize and use magic is a good imagination and an extremely good memory. Damien is erudite, he knows many facts on various different subjects, but he also can fantasize, which makes him a Magi.

Morality & Philosophy

It's hard to pinpoint Damien's exact opinion on how life is and how it should be, but suffice it to say that if asked, he'd try to explain it for hours. Though for a person this philosophical, he's retained too much maximalizm from his younger years. If you break a rule - destroy it completely. If you get into a conflict - do not compromise.

It might seem that Damien goes with the flow, not caring enough about what happens to him, but he knows how to force himself to enjoy life. Usually, the key to that is quite stereotypical for a French person. Women and wine.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Damien has an interesting relationship with time. He had learned of the possibility of Travel when he was walking near Notre Dame, and he was really high. Suddenly he felt dizzy and decided to just sit there for some time, next to the 900 years old monument. He was so relaxed and careless, he didn't know he was touching a Sending Stone, achieving the state of absolute detachment that let him travel back to World War II Paris. There, after crossing the Time Stream (and thinking of it as a part of his trip), Damien had an unpleasant encounter with the current military occupants of the city and managed to flee back in his time. Since then, Damien spent a lot of time trying to learn as much as he could about Time, and that brought him to the Fringe. This knowledge and unusual circumstances of his first, accidental, Travel, let him get started on a unique path, where he had learned to manipulate time ever so slightly. Now Damien refers to himself as a Chronomancer.

А сидел он рядом с активным Камнем - одной из стен Собора. Дамьен провалился в Париж времён Второй Мировой войны (Временной поток он принял за очередной глюк), там уже "протрезвел" и, после очень неприятной встречи с фашистами, сбежал обратно в своё время. С тех пор Дамьен потратил много времени на изучение данного феномена, что, в свою очередь, раскрыло ему правду о мире и привело к Грани. Он также со временем научился лёгким, едва заметным манипуляциям со времени и, благодаря этому, называет себя "Хрономантом".

Virtues & Personality perks

One might argue that attention and awareness are skills, not virtues, but this day and age, nothing could be further from the truth. One has to make a real effort to really understand what's going on around them, and doing that is a virtue in a world with a reduced attention span. It pertains to noticing people and complimenting them as much as to an ability to just see something. Damien has heightened awareness. Some would say even an Inhuman one. Once he enters a room, he needs just a quick look at something to discern what happened. And then he can analyze the situation like he was a certain Conan Doyle's or Agatha Christie's detective character. At a crime scene, he'd swiftly understand what kind of weapon was used, and in a brother, he'd always comliment a worker on new makeup even if he saw her briefly just once, couple of weeks ago.

Vicissitudes of time

Episode 3 spolers

The exact details of Sesostris' and Damien's first meeting are foggy. From Damien's perspective, the Thabenling found him himself and offered a job. Sesostris claimed that this meeting was foretold to him, and he's just fullfilling a prophecy. But Damien knows that his boss is prone to ancient superstitions, or at least he's expressing events like an ancient person would: mentioning gods and mystical things. But in his dream after the fight with Troglodytes Damien saw a rendition of those event which he cannot fully explain. Was it a vision, or was it his brain rendering the events somehow? In any case, Damien saw himself as a different person interacting with Sesostris way back in Ancient Egypt, just as his boss got ready for his hybernation. The mage told the Thabenling about their first meeting, even provided a date, but then the dream ended, abruptly, providing no explanation. Dream Realm might still have more information on that, and Sesostris refuses to tell the whole story. Sinclaire is yet to reflect on what it all meant, and to share it with the others.

The journey to the Templar Tower was not easy for Damien. He examined the room, which had already been looted by his colleagues (a result of a strange time distortion due to an ancient Egyptian spell), talked to the zombie soup, read some books ... But what shocked him the most was something that happened when he traveled back in time using a stone activated by Remy. Damien found himself in 1312, a few years after the decree of the French king to disband the Knights Templar. Someone besieged the Loire Tower, it was on fire, and Sinclair was in the thick of these events. He encountered a Knight Templar, who told Damien a terrible secret. He was Damien's fourth reincarnation: the French magician was reincarnating into the past for unknown reasons. The knight briefly explained all he knew about this phenomenon. After his death, Damien was reborn as a different personality, that was independently formed and gained experience, with none of the memory of the previous incarnations. However, at some point in their life, a tragedy happened, and Damien awakened in this personality. The knight was unlucky: for him, the revelation happened just before his death in a burning tower. By sending Damien back to the future, the knight died and, being a "component" of Horus's spell, became a Guardian, to be slain in the future by agents of the Bureau.

Episodes 8-9 spoilers

The events in the monastery led to Damien's slight disappointment in the image of Joan of Arc, whom he, like many Frenchmen, had previously considered almost a celestial. However, the magician later spoke with her, making the girl understand that she should be more careful in her decisions and not shift the responsibility for them to the Lord.
Influenced by the Brooch in Chinon, Damien indulged in idleness and hedonism. Maxim brought him out of this state.
After meeting with His Majesty and learning that the brooch should fall into the hands of Jeanne, Damien decided to help the maiden and tried to magically put the Dauphin to sleep. The collision of magical energies led to the fact that all participants in this event were drawn into the Dream Realm.
After they had left the Dream Realm and dealt with who the Brooch will go to, Damien said goodbye to Jeanne, reminding her that now her responsibility is even more serious, and decided to try to help Stella di Arezzo. He taught her a number of spells that could help her escape from Tommaso and start a new life. Unfortunately, later it turned out that Stella used them to raise a rebellion against Rome, which, in the end, was brutally suppressed.
Finally, back in 2020, Damien did not think long before proposing to Maxim to go save Joan of Arc from the fire. Apparently, Maxim will only be glad to join him in this matter.

Выбравшись из Мира Снов и разобравшись с тем, кому уйдет Брошь, Дамьен попрощался с Жанной, напомнив ей о том, что теперь ее ответственность ещё серьезнее, и решил попробовать помочь Стелле ди Ареццо. Он научил ее ряду заклинаний, которые могли бы ей помочь сбежать от Томмазо и начать новую жизнь. К сожалению, позднее выяснилось, что Стелла воспользовалась ими, чтобы поднять восстание против Рима, которое, в итоге, было жестоко подавлено.
