Ekrus

An ekrus (ɛ-krɪs) is a human with latent orc and elf traits both manifesting from birth. They are magically gifted, tall, and strong. While orcs and elves do not produce offspring naturally, a human line with both orcish and elven ancestors can produce viable, fertile offspring with traits from both.

Ekrus give live birth and can breed with humans, half-elves, and half-orcs.
They cannot breed with full-blooded elves or orcs.
The children of Ekrus can be human, half-elf, half-orc or ekrus. ( 25%, 35%, 35%, 5% respectively.)

Dietary Needs and Habits

Ekrus are omnivores with fast metabolisms who enjoy new taste and texture combinations. They are particularly fond of luminescent fungus, often poisonous to other species.

Facial characteristics

Ekrus have small tusks coming up from the lower jaw, usually sharp. Their mouths appear wide on their otherwise narrow, angular faces. Ekrus have pale green eyes with no whites. Their ears are short and pointed.

Extremely sparse population, prone to wanderlust.

Sight, hearing, taste, touch, smell, and always magical ability. They tend toward sorcery or druidic magic but can become wizards or clerics as well.

Usually named as per mother's ethnicity. They will often take on a nickname in adolescence that they will identify with for life.

Ekrus tend toward serial monogamy with adventurous travelers who can keep up with their wanderings. They find love and friendship difficult to maneuver, so become truly devoted when they find companionship.

Common Taboos

Taboos include eating of intelligent races, incest, pedophilia, and suicide. They will avoid taboos of other species and ethnicities when dealing with them directly if they are properly informed.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Ekrus find orcs boarish, humans sedentary and elves insular. Ekrus are often feared and envied, making social situations tense when they are among strangers. They tend either to become loners, opting for animal companionship or attempt to compensate by becoming talented in diplomatic and social skills.
Ekrus are sometimes referred to as elk, olives, or emerald pork, which are always taken as insults.

An exceptionally rare human, elven and orcish variant, a few ekrus have been born every three or four generations for at least ten thousand years. Instances have increased in New Thostenburg and in the disputed zone east of the desert.

Ekrus have very pale to very dark skin and hair coloring, but always tinted green and faintly shimmery, as if lichen infested and wet. They often seek out tattoo artists of both elven and Suvi islander traditions.
