Ogun's Wrath

Ogun's Wrath tells the tale of a mountain in the continent of Yogan that caused a massive eruption and expansion of the once tiny island of Yogan into a continent.

Summary

Ogun, the proxy of the God of Death, Calendula, was sent to Frantumare to raise the lands from the waters. The minor deity took interest in a small fiery island and decided to reside there. He created the wyverns as his companions and lived in peace with them until the Skurja appears on Yogan. The Fera hunted the wyverns for meat and scales and in turn, angered the deity for killing his companions.   In a fit of rage, the deity raised a volcanic mountain on the island, releasing lava which turned into additional lands for Kazan. Unbeknownst to the Skurjas, Ogun brought forth a Gargantuan Wyvern to lay waste upon them. Christened as Sakaratul, the Death Bringer, the Wyvern eliminated the majority of the Skurja population and almost caused extinction for the Fera.   Fearing for their life and the erasure of their kind, the Skurjas begged for forgiveness of the deity and Wyvern and offered sacrifices in exchange of the lives of the slaughtered wyverns. It took them almost five decades to appease them, and their wrath slowly dissipates from time to time. In the year 187 of Era 4 that Sakaratul fell into slumber and Ogun returned to his master's side.

In Literature

The story is recorded as a holy scripture for the Shrine of Ogun in Yogan. However, there are variations in forms of poetry and songs and plays, although they only circulate within Kazan.

In Art

Tapestries and scroll paintings of Ogun and Sakaratul are common in a Skurja's household. They hold artistic and sentimental values to commemorate the sacrifices of the Skurja's ancestors in appeasing the god and the Wyvern.

I always love myths related to volcanos. It's really interesting how Draugr was expanded into a continent. I like that lots of people have art related to the myth in their house.
