Betrothal of Sultan and Sultana

Arranged marriage is widely adopted by the people of Qadena including the royalty. Their sons and daughters will be betrothed to a local noble or a royalty from another kingdom when they reach the age of 12. From then on, the prince and princess will get to know each other, their families and their culture regularly.   For the Qadani, to celebrate this joyous occasion is by serving a camel roast for wealth, strength and longevity.

History

It has been passed down for centuries since the time of their ancestors in Era 1. Betrothing their children is a way for them to preserve their royal blood and purity. Commoners are viewed below them, hence any relations to commoner blood are cut off immediately once found out. During the old eras, the betrothal involves pairing the children with their cousins.   In Era 4, the practice is prohibited as it promotes incest which is heavily despised from the similarity with the Skurja whom they refer to as the Devil Descendants. Thus, in the same era, they encourage the royal families to betroth with other nobles instead as a way to spread their power and influence.

Components and tools

When a betrothal happens, a celebration is held. The royal family would purchase camels to make into camel roasts. Due to the resilience of camels in the desert, the animal becomes the symbol of longevity, strength and wealth.

Participants

The prince and the princess are the key people in this celebration. They will be seated next to each other to be introduced and celebrated by their people. This is followed by both their families who will gift each other with either wealth or heirlooms that represents the culture of their city or kingdom.
