Gran Deo

Haven is a city not far from Spawnspoint in the Kingdom of Wellby ("Well-bee"). It is one of the outermost cities of the kingdom and has the potential to be overrun with rebels fleeing the neighboring kingdom or beasts from the Valley of the Forgotten. However, Haven is famous for producing some of the Realms most famous heroes. Because of it's historical aptitude for heroics, it places laurels and immense fame upon those who follow in the footsteps of their ancestors.   Although many heroes gain fame and attention for their many quests, Haven takes this fame seriously by granting different ranks to those who accomplish certain tasks.
Pleb: The normal folk who do not pursue a career in heroism.
Squire: Those in training to become a hero, usually at an academy or under the tutelage of a hero.
Hero: Anyone who has completed their training at the academy or is deemed ready to quest by a Laureate or higher. Hero is also the generic term for the career. All titles above this are in addition to "Hero."
Arbitrium: A hero who has successfully completed at least one first tier quest.
Laureate: A hero who has successfully completed at least one second tier quest.
Addico: A hero who has successfully completed at least one third tier quest. At Addico, a hero becomes eligible to represent Haven in the imperial guard.
Gran Deo: A hero who has completed the Revenge Quest.   All quests are subject to validation by the Hero's Committee before a rank is awarded.   First tier quests:
Successfully protect individuals or property
Recover lost goods
Assist someone in need   Second tier quests:
Correct an injustice
Bring a serial criminal to justice
Enter the Valley of the Forgotten (This tasks does not require that one returns alive. Merely entering gains them this title. It is often seen as a Hail Mary for stagnant or disgraced heroes to achieve a decent rank before their death.)   Third tier quests:
Rid a community of a major threat, especially magical
Defeat a darkly beast in the Valley of the Forgotten. (Again, it does not require they return alive, but it is difficult to provide proof of defeating a darkly beast without returning.)   Revenge Quest: Haven is fabled to be the final resting place of the greatest hero: Deoni the Protector. Deoni is legendary for ridding the realm of ferocious beasts and curses during the age following the Construction that saw horrible acts of magic. He is accredited with helping The Circle of Magicians restore order and establish magical order. Occasionally, the magicians from the Realm of the Prosperous have been known to attempt to take control of the Realm of Four Skies. Often they did this by possessing vicious beasts to avoid detection by the Circle. These beasts were called Lorenthum. They were rare, but they existed. Deoni was killed by a Lorenthum possessed by the demon Kregal. Deoni's death was mourned by all, and his followers, the heroes, have sworn to take revenge on the demons that plotted to kill him.   Today, Lorenthum has come to take a broader term to mean any beast possessed or influenced by a dark magic. To complete the Revenge Quest and gain the rank of Gran Deo, a hero must defeat a Lorenthum and cast its head into the Fire of Deoni. A sacred fire lit at the time of Deoni's death and has been kept burning over the centuries since.   Each rank of hero allows certain special privileges such as salaries from the king, eligibility for certain assignments or exemptions from certain social norms. The title of Gran Deo essentially allows the bearer immunity from all laws in Haven apart from the Code of the Hero and the Forbidden Uses of Magic.
