Yellow Fringe

Composition

Manpower

Within Ca-Chisneu, recruits are stationed to act as the city guard and to principally protect and follow the sapa heir.
Because the innoit favour the number ten, the yellow fringes are capped at ten thousand.

Equipment

Yellow Fringe

A knottery device worn around the bare heads of the guardsmen that allows for instantaneous communication from sapa heir to his Yellow Fringe.

Protection

Individual yellow fringes are armed and dressed according to their origin within the empire.   The quality of their decoration, as well as any metal that went into it, was reliant on their military rank. Different animal skins, fabric shields, feathers, jewels and body paints are a mark of the multitude of people the innoit have brought into their fold.
  • Yaqulla: Capes made of thick alpaca wool useful to block arrows and reduce the damage from hits
  • Awqana Kusma: Bracers made of thickly quilted and padded cotton tunics, with wooden plates to reinforce them as used by officers and noblemen
  • Uma chuku: Wooden helmets reinforced with small copper plates
  • Wallqanqa: Shields made of wood and covered with leather for blocking projectiles and reducing damage from close fighting with the front was covered with the bearer's ayllu's symbols

Weaponry

Along with their cultural fashions, the Yellow Fringe also exemplify their ability to adapt to every new kind of weapon.   As a result, a great variety of weapons specialists exist with the fringe.
  • Chiqtana: A light weight axe
  • Liwi: A bola of three or four stone balls tied to a string
  • Wachina and Wachi: The bow and arrow with poisonous and incendiary variants
  • Waqtana: A thick, double-handed club made of wood
  • Tuksina: A thick, one-handed dagger made of copper or bronze
  • Kunka kuchuna: A symbol of power used by generals that consists of an axe blade with a spearhead on the back side
  • Champi: A common mace consisting of a wooden shaft with a heavy star-shaped object on the top
  • Waraka: A sling generally made of wool
  • Chuki: A spear whose head could be of any metal
  • Kumana: A spear thrower used in hunting

Structure

Squads are organized according to the ethnicity of the soldiers (auca runas). As a consequence, the size and specificity of each can greatly vary over time.
It is quite unlike with the rest of the army. What with them being structured in tens. The yellow ones seem less organized.
Piluta
There is less of a need for that here. Yes, they can always be called upon to deploy as shock troops on mass. But their greatest utility is in smaller man operations.
— General of the conquering South

Logistics

Logistical Support

Qhapaq Ñan

In order to facilitate the movement of their armies, the innoit built a vast road system. Staging areas are set along the roads so that troops and animals can rest and be armed with weapons kept in colcas.

Auxilia

Slingers

Slingers train from childhood for hunting and self-defense, thus improving their dexterity with the weapon.   They typically soften the enemy before impact is made.

Shock Troops

Yellow fringes augment forces of up to 50,000 provincial troops during large scale battles.

Recruitment

Yellow Fringes normally belonging to the nobility from somewhere in the four quadrants that make up the empire, until they reach a size of about 10,000.

Red Fringe

The Red Fringe; the Innoit equivalent of a crown, made up of tassels of red yarn descending from a headband to cover the forehead.

Yellow Fringe

The Yellow Fringe: the Imperial heir’s equivalent to the Red Fringe, is not as set in stone as one might think.   Though there is always an Heir Apparent who might wear the Yellow Fringe, it is not always the case that he might inherent the Red Fringe.
