The Rook: Cymbelline LeClare; The Early Years

Cymbelline LeClare is the daughter of one of three Augustus Senators, the Marquis Norrise LeClare and his first wife, Eliana Thaylinne LeClare. Less than a year after she was born, her mother was brutally murdered on a return trip from the Governmental capital city of Fortuna to their estate of Baylithe. While no body was found, there were enough remains from the burning wreckage to confirm Marquess Eliana's death.    Norisse was rarely home. He was either presiding over the Senate in the Capital or away on diplomatic missions in the mountainous villages of the Central territories, colloquially called The Wastes. He had a way and built a long time trusting relationship among the 4 Corner's most isolated peoples despite the Western Corner's overall outlook of those people as lesser civilized (this is very wrong and furthest from the truth. Yet, the Western Corner has a history narrow outlooks on most things, unfortunately).    Instead, she was raised by a number of the most trusted and closest advisors as well as a number of private educators and an Aupair who went by the name of Claudize. Her great aunt, her father's aunt, Betisse also lived at the estate in her own private wing. She was a retired medicine woman, was once Baylithe's approved Druid. Now, she is elderly, blind, and spends her sunset years hating Cymbelline with a passion and berating Norisse for being such a fool for having the girl in the first place.   Betisse maintained that Eliana was a fiend in disguise, trying to infiltrate and enslave the people in secret. Cymbelline, being her "spawn" was just as awful, and was surely going to continue what her mother had begun. While there is no proof that Betisse was the one who was behind Eliana LeClare's death and there is no evidence that ties the old woman to the crime, Cymbelline has long suspected that the old woman played a role in it somehow.    At the age of 12, she was sent away to BelSalut along with most Senator's children and other nobility across the 4 Corners. BelSalut taught in the traditional Western way, placing an emphasis on arts, humanities, and performance. Politics and Debate were also focuses as a number of the children who attended this school were destined to inherit their parent's seat in the Senate at some point in their lives.    It was very apparent, either due to her unique upbringing or to her disinterest in arts or performance, that she had a difficultly fitting in with her peers. She did not inherit a very traditional Western look from her father outside of her eye color, and she did not have any desire to fit into any conforming social expectation period. She saw the typical behavior of preying upon the weaker to be cowardly and that the magiphobia of the Corner to be backward in thinking in a world where magic was going to grow more and more important as a means of defense against the rising threat of Narne who had just destroyed an entire city-state and was moving Eastward at an alarming rate.   Her reputation at the school sparked even further outrage during the end of her first year when she and the daughter of another senator, Isaura LeRoy broke out in an altercation that resulted in a sudden change of appearance in Cymbelline. Her hair sprouted feathers, her hands took on a more taloned appearance, and her back sprouted two black, feathery, wings. It was obvious that Betisse was, on some levels, correct about her thoughts Eliana who evidently was fiendish in nature, an acciptine that is colloquially referred to as a Harpy or an Erynnis. This would make Cymbelline a half-blooded fiend and her appearance would never revert back to the more human look it had before that fight. It is said that when she engages in any combat, the fiend in her blood begins to take over. Should she ever be pushed too far, she could transform and lose her humanity entirely. This was a major defining moment for Cymbelline, as she begins her life long journey of proving herself to be better than the monster everyone believes her to be.   Understandably, the student body and faculty were both terrified alike, and it took considerable negotiations from Norisse to allow his daughter to continue her education there. The Enrollment Council permitted her to stay by a narrow 4 to 3 vote. Yet, she was forced to be approved for special permits to carry an illusioned enchanted necklace that would hide most of her fiendish features so as to not continue to scare the students any further. Her wings would also be forced to be peace bound while she was on campus to keep her from ever using them.    At the beginning of her second year, she was assigned a roommate, Kesanut Desota, a recent arrival after the Crossroads Tragedy.
