Edemir Atalar: The Dark Betrayer

Excerpt from Terras' Perfect History's Chapter: People of 4 Corners   Edemir Atalar was the last Saresh of the Grand Temple of Lyra in Crossroads. His ancestry goes back for generations all living as some of the most faithful to Lyra's cause and dogma. He was the third oldest son and was not meant to ascend to the title, but both older siblings met tragic and untimely deaths. The causes of those deaths are shrouded in fiendish mystery and fog. A small price to pay for the endless power promised to him by the Fiendish Queen who had taken him under her wing from the time he was a young child, Narne.   He spent the time from childhood all the way to young adulthood being coached by his mysterious mentor on how to masquerade as one who dedicated himself to the teachings and texts of Lyra. He delved deep into the historical accounts and religious texts written up to a millennia ago to find out all that he could in order to impress his Elders. Who was she? Who were her Shadows? What effect did her and her followers' deeds have upon the people of 4 Corners? What can her principles of Balance do to better serve her faithful? He played the role he was supposed to play, and as he continued to work hard and gain respect among other higher-ups at the Grand Temple more and more opportunities were open to him. It was almost as if some sort of magic were at play. Everything she advised him to do placed him in the right place at the right time.   At last, he earned the title of Saresh; the highest-ranking member of the Temple, save for Lyra's Shadows, and therefore gained access to the Temple's sacred and secret texts. The people and faithful followers of Lyra in Crossroads practically worshipped him alongside their goddess. He was praised as the prime example of Lyra's teachings and was a model member of Crossroad's society.   While he spent his days among the people, he spent his nights collecting information from his private collection: Maps of 4 Corners, details of the Fall of Fezzeret, and exactly what role Lyra played in the slaying of the Great Chaos Dragon and exactly what happened to his still imprisoned fiendish kin. He smuggled texts to his advisor and granted her access to libraries that no one was ever permitted to enter, outside of people with his title. Between the two of them, they began the calculations to prepare for their take over of the entire continent. Using the stars, lay line positioning, and casting all the various magics that were needed, a Final Dark Pact between Narne and Edemir was formed. She would lend him all the magical power he ever desired as long as he supplied the final necessities for their spell: sacrifices.   With his newfound powers, he set the stage for the greatest tragedy 4 Corners had ever seen since Cataclysm. And on the night one week after the Longest Day, the sun over Crossroads became shrouded in shadow and chaos emerged from deep within the land. 4 Mighty Fiendish Spirits rained fire, destruction, and pure dissolution upon the city, destroying everything in their path and consuming every ounce of energy from their life forces. The sun would never shine on Crossroads ever again, the Great Hunt had at last resumed, and the War of the 4 Corners had begun.
