The Free City of Firesbane

So what if they cast us out? We people of the deep are tired of living in the shadow of our ancient history. We know all we have to offer, and if we only offer it to each other? that's Fortur's loss. - Minerva Firesbane on the Founding Of Firesbane
Though Firesbane was founded as a shelter for the Teiflings of Fortur who, too often, were cast out of the great Kingdoms of Fortur: it has become a jewel of the south that many foreigners pay great coin to visit or learn from.    The City features large Obsidian Walls, erected by magic to Protect the citizenry from the wildlands just beyond their borders. Firesbane is a city with a 90% Teifling Population, it is well known for it's magical prowess and The Arcanium.
The Military might of Firesbane isn't numerous, but it is potent. Firesbane Arcanists are often hired as advisors or mercenaries for foreign armies.

History

The Founding of Firesbane is often told as an ancient clash of devilish wills. It is said Minerva Firesbane, First of Her Name, was once the Archmage of the Dark Lord of Metreth. His Necromancy was arguably founded on her magical research, but one ill eve young Minerva is said to have been Visited by The Joyous Queen, and was convinced to forge her own path (or of the evil of her Lords ways depending on who does the telling.)
Metreth was so distraught losing his head Witch, that he cast out all Teiflings from Metreth, leaving them to spend decades scrounging in the streets of Corfae and Rhandeste: always looked down upon by the native races of these lands. Minerva saw the plight of her People, and felt responsible for their status as second-class citizens. She looked to The Uruk Horde led by Luna Ray, another race of people who broke the shackles of their oppressors, and while she was inspired to take up leadership...her style was not suited for a violent revolution to reclaim a homeland.
Instead Minerva went from town to town, preaching the value of a true home for the Pitfolk, a place where their arcane talents would be celebrated and lauded rather than seen as cause for suspicion. Little by little her Following grew, and they purchased fare on great ships to head south, in search of land they might call their own.
So many ports did not welcome "Devils Fleet" to their borders, no King seemed keen to allow them foundation of their city. So they went to the land they knew no mortals would contest their will: The Wildlands. Armed with what they could bring and their arcane wits, they settled lands so wild no Mortal had ever tamed even a small settlement. Only true Firesbane know just how, but the Free City of Firesbane was forged from the western edge of The Wilds, and a home for the Teiflings was finally at hand.
Minerva protested the name for some time, but ultimately her people's will had to be heard, and the newly named city was Titled for its' founder who has ruled it ever since, living hundreds of years.

Tourism

The Most well known spot in Firesbane is The Arcanium, the worlds greatest school for Arcane arts. A legendary school that locals with magical ability attend freely, and scholars across Fortur desperately petition to study at.
The Arcanium is headed by the Headmistress, a governmental position second only to the Archmagister in Firesbane. The Current Headmistress, Headmistress Esmeralda Firesbane has been known to take in more scholars from abroad than her predecessor. Under her stewardship, the Disciplines taught in the Arcanium have expanded beyond merely the Arcane to encompass a diverse field of various magical and mundane methods leading Arcanium Graduates to be among the most capable adventurers in Fortur.
