War of the Suns Military Conflict in Fortis | World Anvil

War of the Suns

The War of the Suns, often referred to as simply "the war", was fought between the Adamants and the Zealots. The two factions had been struggling for control over the Twin Cities region for cycles upon cycles, each one gaining the upper hand before losing it after another Turning. Alliances with other nations were formed and broken time and again, ruining countless lives and entire cities along the way.   This chaos culminated in the destruction of a tower that had been used for celestial observations since before recorded history began, and both factions lost the ability to directly observe the magical equinox. Since the tower and the surrounding area had long been an in-between land, where both factions were free to go but they couldn't fight. When the tower collapsed, any semblance of civility between the sides was brought to a quick end and mages began battling alongside the fallen stones in the center of both cities.   As luck would have it, the Valtaran army arrived in the midst of this battle and crushed both factions, which had been crippled by the battle with each other. Although Roth's forces are generally credited with this victory, they received help from the warrior mages of the Pangfen desert, who were able to subdue the few remaining magic users on the field and assisted greatly with the capture of the leaders of both sides   Surrounded by his army and the Pangfen soldiers, Roth drove his sword into the ground in what had been the courtyard of the tower with the famous quote, "What was separate is now bound by blood." That moment is said to mark the end of the War of the Suns, and the First Court was established shortly thereafter.
