Mirabar

The first thing you see of Mirabar is not the city, or the defenses. It is the towering silhouette of the Central Massive. The city, nestled in the shadows of the mountains is only visible once you've crested the next hill.
Walking towards the city the squat stone houses behind the high walls are barely visible partially hidden behind the black smoke, pouring out of the underground vents in the north of the city. The acrid smell of burnt coal and metals is noticeable even from miles away.
But all this fades away, once you near the finely metalworked gates and see the intricate designs telling stories of wars long pasts and gods long forgotten. And once you pass the finely paved alleys of the Great Anvil and marvel at the white stone trees lining the streets all the ugliness from the outside is easily forgotten.
It is not home, but the closest I will ever come to it.
- Sindal Fireng, Elvish Explorer

Demographics

The society is divided between the two parts of the city, the upper and lower city. While there are primarily traders and merchants living in the upper city. The lower city is occupied by the local mining and smelting operations.   Due to this split the main part of the Upper City consists of humans and elves. Dwarves are regularly seen aswell. The other races only appear as small minorities with a few being almost completely absent (for example Tabaxi or Genasi). The lower city is almost exclusively made up of dwarves, since they are the original founders of the city. To date they are responsible for the mining, smelting and metalwork which makes up the biggest part of the trade of Mirabar

Government

Mirabar is being governd by a council called Council of glimmering stones. It consists of five elected officials who are responsible for the inner workings of the city. The biggest factions in the city and therefore in the council as well are made up of the miners and the traders since those are responsible for the wealth of the city. So it often leads to conficlt between members of those societies.

Defences

The city itself is very well defended. For one there is the lower city that is only reachable via a pulley lift system or a long walkway that starts in the upper city. When descending the walkway there are several gates that can be closed and artificial chokepoints the defenders can use to make every possible attack difficult to impossible. The upper city, while being not as well defended as the lower city, has a formidable wall aswell. It surrounds the city and every so often a guard tower is integrated into it. The wall itself is 8 meters high and worn smooth by the harsh weather. There is a special guild inside the city that is tasked with keeping the wall in perfect shape since the threat of Giant or Orc attacks from the mountains is omnipresent.

Industry & Trade

The primary industry of the city is mining and the resulting metalworking capacities. Mirabar is famed for its high quality metal products ranging from simple household items to weapons and armor. The trade is being handled by the city itself aswell. Mirabar has its own harbor where ships can sail towards Luskan in the west by following the Mira or towards Trentenvayne by following the Mora towards the south. In addition to the excellent connections by ship the city is easily reachable via the Metal Walkway.

Infrastructure

The city is situated right next to a big river that leads to the ocean which encourages a lot of direct trade. By land the city is connected to the Metal Walkway which is one of the biggest roads leading from the southern part of the continent up to the Central Massive .

Architecture

The upper city of Mirabar is a collection of flat squat stone buildings, with a few notable exceptions sticking out. These exceptions being the city hall, the hall of stones and a few of the temples related to the different gods.   The lower city differs completely to the upper city. The lower city can be entered either via pulley lift system located near the harbor or via a big staircase located near the city hall. When descending the lift you are being lowered right next to a gigantic nearly 200metres high pillar. This pillar is lined with lightened up windows and serves as a giant dormitory for all the workers and other inhabitants of the lower city. Below you see a ton of open fires and forges that illuminate the lower floor at nearly every hour of the day.   When you enter via the staircase it takes some time to transcend all the steps towards the botton since the staircase spirals down the outer edge of the giant circular chamber that houses the most part of the undercity. While descending the stairs the staircase is lined by a whole lot of different shops, taverns and other buildings, giving travelers the opportunity to rest up or not even needing to descent the whole way to do their shopping.

Natural Resources

Miarbar contains a lot of mineral resources since it is located directly next to one of the biggest mountain ranges of the continent. Furthermore it has a nearly endless supply of lumber, since the forests next to it are being diligently maintained to secure a constant supply of fuel for the countless forges in the city. The only thing Mirabar is lacking is a sustainable food source, there are some mushroom plantations in the lower city. But grwosing anything else is difficult due to the harsh climate next to the mountains.
