Demographics

While technically still being part of the Pragon Empire it is located at its border and at the Charred Mountains . The inhabitants of this city are pretty evenly distributed over all species with humans being a slight majority over the rest of the species. Due to its proximity to the Sun Bleached Vasts the city houses a unusually big portion of Tabaxi and differing Genasis. The wealth within the city is mostly distributed in two bracktes, slaves/poo people and rich people, with only small amounts of the populace in between. The city primarily revolves around the slave trade happening and around the casions, gladiator schools and fighting pits that make the city infamous all over the continent.

Government

Since the city is technically part of the Pragon Empire the city is formally governed by a Gwendal but due to its unique location a triumvirate of merchants controls the city. These merchants, called The Kespians rule the city with an iron fist. Disputes with the crown are being negotiated by the pure mass of money the triumvirate controls, aswell as their influence in the trade in the region. Even though slavery is outlawed the slave trade inside the empire is very much alive and high government officials are known to actively participate in this practice. This leads to some measure of immunity for the triumvirate aswell. The policing in the city is done by the Pragon Guard, but in contrast to most of the empire here this guard is not made up of conscripts and volunteers the members are being paid by the The Kespians. The guard is more of a personal guard to each member instead of a public guard.

Industry & Trade

The main industry of Mael Springs is the slave trade. Originating from this city a lot of raiding parties over the nearby border of the Kikidian Dynasty are started. These bring in fresh slaves and plunder which are sold on the cities slave markets to wealthy buyers or given to the fighting pits for training. The plunder is usually kept as a toll for The Kespians so they keep any prosecution off the slavers. The second profitable trade route is coming from the water where a lot of pirates usually offload their plunder and, if they have any, slaves to the city. This gives Mael Spring a bit of a reputation as a pirate city. The biggest income source for the city itself are the fighting pits and the surrounding gambling dens. These drive a continuous flow of people of all wealth classes looking for the next extravagant vacation into the city. This reliance on tourism leads to Mael Springs being a very safe city, despite all the less than legal going ons behind the scenes.

Infrastructure

The greatest achievments of this city are the three big fighting pits that represent the three main districts of the city. The Star is the biggest and most prestigious one. It is located in the north of the city, surrounded by the wealthiest citizens. The manors of The Kespians are not far away either. In this arena the highest priced fights are being fought, The School located in the south - west of the city this fighting pit functions as a school for aspiring fighters. It is surrounded by a big complex containing housing and assorted other training facilities for the fighters. The education a fighter receives depends on, either their own financial means, or of the financial situation of their sponsor. For some the education already begins as a child and they are being groomed to be fighters. The Shambles is located near the south - east border of the city. It is not one big arena, rather several arenas located in a loose clump. The arenas are surrounded by the slums of the city and the poor are providing most of the fighters in the arena. This is an area of the city where it is often either try to survive the arena or starve.
