Kylynn Firestone Character in Forgotten Realms | World Anvil

Kylynn Firestone

Kylynn is a blacksmith working out of the Trades Ward of Waterdeep. She specializes in most metallurgy, but has been known to craft...special items for the right price. Mainly she deals as a common craftswoman though and that's how most people know her.   Her shop is in one of the Trade Squares of the Ward, and though its not the busiest, she usually can be found hard at work at her shop with her assistant, Ernest (a hard worked salesman and apprentice blacksmith). Though she is skilled, her personality can drive customers away at times. She doesn't like dealing with uninformed requests from people who act like they know more than her and this has earned her a reputation of being cantankerous (which, in fairness, she can be). Looking at her at her forge, something few people get to do, she can be found with a smile on her scarred face.   ----------------------   Connected to Illidrex :   While wanting to expand his performances throughout the city, Illidrex found his way into the Trade Ward, and entered into the Good Steel, Kylynn's shop. He commented on the on the nose nature of her shop's name, which didn't earn him a smile right from the start. She, however, curtly dealt with his request for new daggers, as he asked more questions than demanded things. He didn't know it at the time, but she appreciated that he didn't act like he was superior or that he knew more than he did.   When he returned, he asked if he may test out the balance of the blades and draw them. She nodded, only saying that he should be careful not to cut himself. She then returned to her forge.   She came back out to check on him a few minutes later, only to find him gone. She didn't really care, as he had paid for the daggers already, and was about to get back to work, but then heard a commotion outside.   Illidrex was performing his knife-routine to a mixed reaction crowd. At first, Kylynn was going to yell at him to stop, but watched for a few minutes and realized the man was in no danger to anyone but himself. She then went back inside.   After awhile, she had a large influx of customers. It seemed that the demonstration of the balance of the blades, plus some encouragement by Illidrex to check out the store, had drawn many customers in. By the end of the day, Kylynn had only driven away a few with her shortness and impatience with rude people. When she asked the last customer where Illidrex had gone, as she wanted to thank him briefly for his endorsement, she learned he had been arrested for disturbing the peace with her daggers.   Kylynn set off at once to the office of the Trade Warden's office. There, she refused to leave without meeting with the Trade Warden Yndra Paldoon herself. She, with all the diplomacy she could manage, told the Trade Warden that Illidrex had been hired as a contractor for herself to advertise her wares, as he was in front of her store when he was arrested. Most other merchants had stalls outside of their stores so customers didn't have to enter the building, but Kylynn kept hers clean to not block traffic, but was still hers by property rights.   Warden Paldoon tried to argue with her on the matter, but Kylynn was not only insistent, but threatened to take it to a higher authority if Illidrex wasn't released.   When the blacksmith lead the masked performer out into the night, she discussed with him terms. He would perform in front of her store whenever he would want and the watch wouldn't bother him. In exchange, whenever he performed he would direct customers into the store. When Illidrex asked if this meant he would also get a discount in the store, she with a hint of a smile said "No," and fervently meant it.
