RoA Session 2

Wrath of the Clockworks

General Summary

2nd of Early Ardent, 1723

Heading into the city Herrington, Trinidad, the party heard rumors about a half-elf man named Oswin Mandus. A revolutionary businessman who helped clean up the streets of Herrington with factories and charities that he founded. They met the man at his unkempt manor, where two fancy masked humanoids littered the yard. When removing a mask, it was revealed to be covering the face for a clockwork.

Inside his home, the party found remnants from the past, particularly records shaped as kenkus called "kenkorders" that can capture and playback sounds. These kenkorders revealed that Mandus was visited by Professor Claren from the ministry about concerns with his works and the arguments between the two of them. Even a memory capsule showcased Mandus' memory of his expedition into Prageria, digging up a strange orb. Touching it, it revealed to him flashes of images of a gruesome and horrific conflict of an apocalyptic scale. The party even meets a strange voice from a comm system, asking them to head into the factory and deactivate it all.

Down through the elevator system, it drops, plummeting them into a cistern with the wretched stench of decay. Bodies floating about from the holding cell drift around the area. Through the cistern, the holding cells, and past a hallway, the party finds their way into the factory with the helping guidance of the "Engineer" that brings them to the facility's lever to once and for all, shut down the contraptions. Unfortunately, pulling the lever turned the facility on.

Trickery! The Engineer was the strange clockwork with the orb-like head and four slender arms. They pursued him into his quarters and fought to the bitter end. Upon the Engineer's defeat, its orb-like head glistened with those vicious images from an ancient war.

“I have stood knee-deep in mud and bone and bowed on my wilting knees. I have seen vast empires fall. I have slain in holy wars and made puppets of the fallen. I corrupted the minds of refugees; I have murdered dissidents where scales replace flesh and starved the masses into faith. A child's shadow turned into a nightmare. A pile of skulls on a stormy island. The innocent, the innocent people; trod, and bled, and poisoned, and starved, and beaten and murdered and enslaved! This, is Arkengrath’s return! He will enslave them all, he will make slaves of you all, and he will bury his claws into your ribs and he will claim your souls!” ~ The Engineer

When Fergus picked up the orb, a creature that radiated foreboding darkness, appeared and lashed at the party. They awakened in the destroyed factory, their minds shaking from the terrifying encounter.

After a few weeks pass, the party receives a letter from "Magistrate A. Fugue" about coming to Herrenburg Castle to rid themselves of whatever follows them.

Afterwards, the party named themselves the "Terrible Tarrasques", founding their tavern to be named Tarrasique Park in Herrington, Trinidad.
