Gavina Reilly

Captain Gavina Reilly

Gavina is a Scottish woman, and the Captain of the MV Tidalfront. Formerly a Commander in the Royal Navy, Gavina defected from New Albion out of frustration under the command of the Royal Navy System, and their inaction on the many threats Albion faces.

Early Life

Gavina was born and raised on Albion, and spent most of her early life playing and enjoying the peaceful life in Linconshire, She enjoyed swimming in the ocean and playing on Linconshire's many beaches, and especially loved learning tales of the open ocean. Her father, a former Captain of the Royal Navy, enrolled her into navy once she turned 16, as he believed it would be the safest way for her to sail the seas while serving her country.

Life in the Navy

Gavina entered the navy with a dream of becoming a rear admiral, "Anything above Rear is just paperwork and boring politics", She would say. Becoming a Liutenant was swift and simple, after serving for just under 3 years, and having proven herself on the eastern front in her second year, She was promoted to Liutenant and was stationed on the HMS Tidalfront for general missions. However, over the past year Gavina had begun to question the leadership of the Royal Navy. She no longer saw the sea as a place of mystery and magic, and instead saw all the dangers that surrounded her nation. Knowing the strength of the Royal Navy, Gavina believed that the only way to keep Albion safe was to attack and destroy all opposing forces that posed any threat to the peace of Albion. 4 months later, yet another attack was made on the eastern front of Albion, and during a defensive mission Commander Austin Duke was thrown overboard by a stray piece of shrapnel. Gavina dived into the water to save him, swimming his unconcious body all the way to shore. Although Commander Duke died just 5 days later, in the time he was hospitalized he praised Gavina's bravery and courage, leading to her promotion from Lieutenant to Lieutenant Commander the following month at the age of 19. Just after Gavina turned 21, Gavina was promoted to Commander of the HMS Tidalfront, and stayed commander for 2 years.

Time as Commander

As Commander of the HMS Tidalfront Gavina served the royal navy in dozens of missions, and was known for being very agressive in battle, often chasing the retreating enemy ships to pick off as many as possible. Gavina constantly tried to push for the deployment of an offensive fleet, to take out the enemies that surrounded them and prevent them from ever threatening Albion again. This proposition was shot down time and time again, with the admiral and vice admirals, along with the Albion Government refusing to attack other settlements, deciding instead to only engage if enemies threatened their shores. However, Gavina saw this as the weak and naive appraoch, to her, fighting near or on the shores of Albion was too close to the civilians and the peaceful life they lived. Attacking removed the risk of Albion civilians being caught up in the crossfire, and by picking off these opposing nations one by one, Albion could expand to become the greatest kingdom on flooded earth. After 2 years of trying to sway the admirals to no avail, Gavina slowly gave up on swaying the navy and the government, turning to the idea that she could simply do it herself.

Defecting from the Navy

At the age of 23, on September 8th Gavina entered the bridge as she normally would. Soldiers saluted as she passed them, waiting for her to fully pass before continuing with their tasks. They were on their way to the southern edge of Albion to take part in what they expected to be one of their largest battles of the decade. Although, Gavina had another mission on her mind. the Battle of Swanat ended with an albion victory, but heavy losses on both sides. Over the last year Gavina had become less agressive in battle, but as the enemy began their retreat the HMS Tidalfront broke formation, chasing after the enemy ships, picking the slower ships off with powerful missiles and artillery. The Captain of the Headliner ordered Gavina to return with the rest of the fleet, but Gavina ignored the order and continued on her attack. disappearing in the smoke and wreakage of the fallen ships. Those of the crew who did not want to defect with Gavina abandoned ship, swimming back to the main fleet or frantically ejecting life rafts and piling onto them. Of the 280 crewmembers, just 5 crew members stayed and aided Gavina in her escape with the HMS Tidalfront. These crew members were some of Gavina's most loyal subordinates, who she had shared her ideals with and her gripes with how the navy was run, and they too agreed with her methods, vowing to support her in her new life as she builds her crew to take down the settlements that threaten New Albion through any means neccesary.
