Eni Belul

The Eni Belul, Tanese for "Second Sea", is a basin of sand dunes between the Shiver Mountains and the Coastal Range. It is the third largest desert in the world. The Zel River runs along the southern extend of the dunes, and south of the river, the desert turns into barren rock rather than sand. The area along the banks of the Zel, the coast along the Panonic Gulf, and valleys into the mountains are the only areas fertile enough to support agriculture. To the north, it gradually fades into semi-arid tropical savanna. To the south, the barren rock gives way to dry grasslands.   The Eni Belul has a harsh climate. It receives very little rain and daytime temperatures can exceed 50 degrees Celsius during the summer. The sky is usually clear of clouds, causing the sun to beat down unrelentingly. It becomes more bearable during the winter, when daytime temperatures only reach the high 20s, and the nights can be as cool as 15.
