Land Trains

What exactly is a land train?

Land train is sort of a train, except it doesn’t run on tracks, but on regular roads. Or more accurately, the dirt road that connects all of the bat settlements with T@Ö#Ä3 - it is used for the transport of goods back and forth between bat settlements and T@Ö#Ä3, or Wasteland Capital.

It consists of a steam powered truck in the front that has different carts attached to it. These can be used for goods meant for trade, people in charge of transport or supplies for those people.

Each land train has four to six carts attached to it, before it becomes too heavy and too long to effectively drive. Even in the best case scenario they aren’t very fast though, Wasteland terrain isn’t very welcoming to vehicles.

There is also a variety of shorter land trains, meant for the passengers. These are smaller groups or single traders and visitors. These are often available to rent in areas of T@Ö#Ä3 near Wasteland.

Why land trains?

Well, how else are you gonna transport goods to and from T@Ö#Ä3? There really is no actual infrastructure in Wasteland, and bat people prefer it that way anyway. If they built a whole railroad leading to their towns, then everyone could just travel there anytime, and no mystery would be left. Everyone would find out they’re just regular fruit bats and we don’t want that.

This type of a steam powered train also fits into their aesthetic a lot better than any other vehicle would, so just leave it alone. Land trains are super cool and not at all like other trains.

How exactly are they used?

Most commonly they are used for transportation of goods. For this, usually a whole caravan is sent out, run by a kind of a caravan family. They travel with multiple land trains, some of which only transport goods while others transport the family and the supplies it needs. And they do need a lot of supplies. There are almost no settlements in Wasteland, so this will be a long journey - you’re looking at hours or days of not knowing if you’re even going the right way and no rest stops. People in these Caravan Families who go back and forth between Wasteland and bat settlements should be used to this journey, but you never know. They have no GPS to rely on and a paper map won’t save you when you have no idea where in the Wasteland you are. Whole caravans went missing like this.

They can also be used to transport different visitors from T@Ö#Ä3. Depending on the amount of people traveling, these can often be shorter and faster. These are available for rent, and come with a bat driver, very well familiar with the Wasteland and the right way to go. Though as already mentioned, even well seasoned travelers when completely missing in Wasteland.
