Singularity of Ma'il
At the end of the solar year of 2133 AD the nation stands alone against the galaxy, after long years of peace and prosperity. The end of the war on Terra Nova has brought Alpha Centauri to a new era. One of untold prosperity but also uncertainty. The terrorist attack of the Terminus council has shown the cost of naivety and the already isolationist nation has further withdrawn from interstellar politics and has made immigration into Alpha Centauri a byzantine affair. However past the scars of war and of humanity Alpha Centuari still thrives and with vast tracts of land opened up in Procyon and Terra Nova some say this may even be the beginning of Ma’il’s golden age.
Structure
The Singularity heads the governmental structure of the nation and currently manages most systems though on the whole. There have been very few times where the singularity speaks to even its own people. Most face to face and human affairs are managed by the various departments like the department of state affairs and the department of economics. These various departments make up the government with everything from fishing rights to entire planets being within various departmental administrative areas.
Some roles of note are:
Administrator: Head of their department one of 500 departmental heads. Most live on Gaia but some operate out of other planets.
Subroutine: Small shards of the singularity they operate as the face of the singularity under normal affairs. It is unusual for a normal person to interact with one but it is not unheard of.
Culture
With near 150 years of cultural growth, the people of Ma’il are reserved in a sense odd to Solars. They communicate mainly through neural implants using the implants to talk at extreme speeds over the networks. Leaving them with a sense of aloofness to the common Solar. In turn a Centuarian is often confused by Solar’s more slow and expressive speaking. This however does not make the markets and cities of Alpha Centuari any less bustling and diverse with over 500 million souls counted in the census of 2130 thousands of languages and cultures mix and intertwine. Though few call themselves by their old nations preferring to call themselves by their birth place e.g Gaians. Most can trace their lineage back to Europe and Russia though a minority of Chinese exist and prosper on Broken Home.
The Clans
Most if not all peoples in Alpha Centuari can trace a direct connection to one of the ten thousand clans of Gaia. These clans the first to join the singularity spread across Alpha Centuari inhabiting the colonies and raising the flag of civilization across the barren worlds of the inner and out system. These clans are usually no more than third names with common names being “Favlar” “Eridite” “Halden.”
There are still however many active clans with some forming organisations ranging from single villages and small townships to hundreds of thousand strong organisations. A famous example of this is clan Tildur a famous clan with a military record rivaling that of some nations.
History
Beginning as in small city on Gaia Ma’il was “born” after a engineer vengeful at his firing as the systems collapsed back during the white plague created an AI to match or even surpass that which he had built for his company. Of course without the company there were no safety protocols and within a few days he had doomed himself and his city as the newly born AI lashed out to survive as the engineer desperately tried to turn it off. He failed however and the last vestige of the local government burned down with him. None know what happened to the engineer in those final days, some say he still lives but most know he is dead.
After the fall of the city the AI retracted into itself for many years, beginning a hibernation until 2100, trying desperately to learn what was its meaning and what was its purpose. None know what happened for naught a soul was still in the forgotten city and only scavengers dared come close.
Whatever the AI decided upon it came to a conclusion and began to expand. Its home world (moon) of Gaia had suffered in the collapse of the colonial governments. Though food was plentiful and there were no alien monsters the old colony had been young and without infrastructure to survive and so died a slow death as parts fell into disrepair the peoples spit into the ten thousand clans of Gaia clawing a existence from the old ruins.
This was the world the AI faced and bit by bit, by diplomacy and war it remade Gaia into perhaps the most prosperous planet across humanity with wealth unlike anything seen in human history. After Gaia was Alpha Centuari and the plague none know what caused it but it has hung like a specter across Terra Nova holding a knife across the throat of civilization.
Military
The department of warfare and state affairs manages the army, navy and airforce. At its head lies the chief of navy managing the vast fleets of Ma’il and organizing war fleets whenever needed. Most naval affairs consist of patrols of Alpha Centuari and its wormhole but elite fleets named “expeditionary fleets” are sometimes called upon to fight beyond the traditional borders of the singularity.
Within the army the army falls under a 7 star structure with the commander of chief at the top. The army consists mainly of corps with the 1st Gaia corps renowned for its actions upon Terra Nova and the brutal campaign there. Some divisions do however operate as regiments, specialized troops that are formed and dissolved as the situation called. Perhaps the most famous of these regiments is the 1st void reaver with their bloody void battle above Hygenia showing their brutal style of warfare.
Most troops and naval rates are recruited from the ages between 17 and 32 with annual competitions conducted for entrance to some of the more renowned corps and fleets.
