The Emperor's Knife

When The First Emperor united the tribes of The Hollow Expanse, he ordered the creation of a ceremonial knife. This was worn by all the Emperor's at every state occassion. In fact it was very rarely away from the Emperor's person.

Description

The knife is bladed on both sides, making it really a dagger rather than a knife. It has an ornate design of undulating lines etched on the blade. The crosspiece is curved stone with wire binding it to the blade. At the centre of the hilt is a large crystal swirling blue and green deep within it. Leather pieces wind round the handle to form the grip.

Historical use

When accepting oaths of loyalty, the Emperor would use this knife to make a shallow cut along the palm of the person offering fealty. He'd catch two drips of blood in a pewter goblet, adding that to the store of blood he'd gained from all those who'd sworn to him.

Rumours about the knife

Many people spoke of the knife having more powers, fueled by the crystal at the centre of its hilt. But no one was ever certain. The Emperor did have a habit of appearing where he wasn't expected, and travelling between places faster than he should, but he never explained, or allowed any speculation in his hearing.
When The Final Emperor passed, the knife dissapeared. It was said to be waiting for the next Emperor, but after decades passed, it was forgotten, along with the hope of a new Emperor.
