Jahan Sattari
Grand Prince Consort of the Singing Wood
A dark-skinned human man in his fifties with graying black hair and warm brown eyes, Prince Jahan Sattari is the prince-consort of Queen Shahnaz of the Singing Wood and the father of princesses Kohinoor and Alizeh. In his older age he has become rather light-hearted and carefree, but his stature still belies his past as a warrior.
Personal History
Jahan Sattari was a once a Prince of Arrats. When he was sixteen, his family was met with a sudden and tragic end and Jahan was stripped of his seat on the Council of Elector Princes of the Stalic Empire. The seat went instead to the father of Oberwerner von Offenweizen. Orphaned and landless, Jahan clung to the one duty he had not been stripped of: acting as a Paladin of the Crown, a role he now inherited from his late elder brother. Deep in his heart, Jahan wished to regain what he had lost—the white halls of his childhood home, the treasures and histories passed down through his family through generations. It was his life-long ambition to retake his homeland, but it was something easier said than done. As a Paladin of the Crown, treason was out of the question. He would have to abide by the Council's decision. Though he had sworn to protect the Stalic Empire when he had taken on his brother's mantle, it was a deep sense of having been wronged and an oath of vengeance that kept him going. He spent the next several years a wanderer, entering tourneys to earn a living. In this time he witnessed many acts of cruelty by people in positions of power, which disgusted him. So, Jahan strove to position himself as a defender of those who could not do so for themselves. Living among the people gave him a strong sense of how he thought a proper ruler should act. Giving to charity, tending the sick, and doing small kindnesses earned Jahan a name for himself--a journeying knight with nowhere to call home. He met Queen Shahnaz of the Singing Wood when he took part in the Singing Wood's annual summer tournament. Shahnaz took notice of his quiet but intense focus, his passion, and his integrity. Touched by his story of being cast out by his peers and his desire to return to court triumphant, Shahnaz made the decision to aid him in his ambition by marrying him and petitioning for the Singing Wood to be added to the Empire as an elector seat. Jahan tried to talk her out of it, unwilling to be the sole reason for an entire kingdom's annexation. However, Shahnaz, with her fiery temperament, would not have her authority or leadership capability questioned. She believed in him and his purpose, and she wanted to take a chance on him. It was as simple as that. Jahan had not had someone on his side in a long time, and so this act of faith struck a strong chord with him. Shahnaz earned Jahan’s utter admiration and loyalty. The two became a team dedicated to one another’s success. From this partnership grew genuine love. Much time has passed since Prince Jahan was a youth, hungry for battle. Preoccupied with ruling a new princedom and raising children, he may well have squandered his chance to return to his homeland, though he never forgot his longing for it. It suffused his speech, and unwittingly he passed this ambition to his eldest child, Kohinoor. As he trained her in the ways of a paladin--in how to be a good ruler, a good person--he found his anger dissolve away. In truth, raising his two daughters changed Prince Jahan for the better. His children pulled him from his longing for the past into a hope for the future.Social
