Shrine of Memory

"Don't worry. Even if you fall in battle, even if you're erased from existence, I'll remember you." - Yehuda
This warped realm that doesn't seem to obey the conventional laws of space was created by Yehuda in order to remember and preserve the people and places that were lost in previous 3rd dimensions. As more and more iterations got destroyed, the more the Shrine of Memory had to expand, twist, and fold itself to accommodate. In the present day, it's said that the true nature of the Shrine can only be appreciated by higher dimensional eyes. Any conventional visitor to the Shrine is likely to become lost forever within without some sort of guidance. Though Yehuda usually serves as this guide, his brother Yeshua will occasionally appear in a spirit form in the visitor comes too close to an exit that leads to Final Dimension, and guide them towards a different exit.   Along with Final Dimension, it's the only realm that's consistently survived the destruction of a 3rd dimension.

Geography

The entranceway to the Shrine can appear in literally any location under an unknown set of conditions. The last time they were counted there were entrances in Hell, The Barren Sector, Gemonite Homeworld, Martian Ruins, and Final Dimension. Just beyond these entrances is usually a dull and grey area, but as you go further into the Shrine, the scenery can change into any number of locations. Because the laws of space don't behave as they should, it can be extremely difficult to find things, as they seem to move around a lot. False Memories can help somewhat, but only Yehuda or Yeshua can serve as true infallible guides.

Localized Phenomena

The Shrine itself seems to possess a certain degree of intelligence, as certain memory types are more likely to appear depending on the person visiting, especially if it's of a being they had a strong connection with. Unfortunately, False Memories have been known to take advantage of this by leading people astray.

Fauna & Flora

The multitude of the residents of the shrine of memory aren't technically "living" in the traditional sense. They are beings that contain everything they once were, but do not have any future. They are essentially echoes of the past in physical form; no matter how many times you see one, they will greet you as if it were their first time. Because of this, Yehuda refers to them as "Memories". All of these Memories have a number of tiny red X's orbiting them if they manifest themselves outside their rooms, and they are all aware to some degree of the nature of their existence.   There are many types of Memories, each of which has different properties. The most unusual types are as follows:   Distant Memories: Almost all of them have vague, undetailed appearances, and only manage to speak a phrase or two. They usually inhabit locations that resemble crowded areas like amusement parks, cities, etc. Unlike other memory types, they do not have any Xs due to the fact they resemble the idea of a person rather than a specific person.   False Memories: These are beings that never existed. These kinds of Memories don't have any past, and thus only make observations of those around them. Unlike most Memory types, they have a persistent memory and thus are more like true citizens of the Shrine than the other types. While most of them are decent, there are some that are wicked and must be avoided. However, like all of the Memory types, they are unable to leave the Shrine.   Traumatic Memories: These types of Memories are the embodiment of events that traumatized the whole 3rd Dimension itself. They speak in a distorted, impossible-to-understand manner, wield terrifying abilities, and come in all shapes and sizes. None of the other Memories, or even Yehuda, will go near one of these things.

Tourism

Not necessarily a tourist destination per se, but any time a portal appears in a civilized area, they'll lead expeditions into it in an attempt to explore it. Once they learn of its nature, people start seeking it out in an attempt to contact those that they've lost, or perhaps seek out new tough opponents. In most cases, people either get led back to the entrance, or run away, but in other cases, people either get killed by a dangerous Memory or find a place they never want to leave, becoming "part of the Shrine", as Yehuda once put it.

Inspiration

This is an interesting one. The idea came from a place in a game called Hellsinker called the Shrine of Farewell, which seemed to work in a vaguely similar way. I also had a few dreams that I incorporated into this place and changing the way it works even further. Oddly enough, I came up with Yehuda much later than I did this place.   One thing I like about this place is that any kind of character can appear here. Characters I threw out long ago, characters from other people's worlds, etc. Of course that would heavily imply that said character likely belonged to a previous version of the 3rd dimension, so cameos from Mario or someone like that are unlikely. :P
