Hornlord
Hornlord is the title given to the military head of a minotaur herd. In minotaur speech, Hornlord simply means "leader of horns", with horns being the Guardians of the Herd. The position is not gendered, which can cause confusion among races that use more gendered systems. Hornlords are more often bulls, but the ratio is actually quite close between bulls and cows.
Qualifications
The Hornlord is the Guardian with the most strategic mind, and the best tactical wit.
Requirements
Passes the tests set by the previous Hornlord and Elder Circle. These tests can take many forms, but often come in a set of three: Tactics, Strategy, and Leadership. The entire herd watches the tests, as both the candidate and the incumbent Hornlord participate to see which is the more fit for the duty.
Appointment
The candidate, if they pass the tests and surpass the incumbent, is named by the Elder Circle as the new Hornlord.
Responsibilities
The Hornlord, as the armed force of the herd, recieves the reports of the rangers patrolling the Herdstead, and decides what action, if any, is warranted. Should the Hornlord deem significant action is warranted, such as repelling an invasion of territory, the Herdlord is informed so they may best protect the herd.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
Removal from the position is upon gross negligence, sucession through the Tests, or death. Negligence results in disgrace, and is banned from holding any position in the herd again. Succession through the Tests is the honorable method, and the succeeded Hornlord often acts as an advisor and sounding board for future Hornlords.
Type
Nobility, Non-hereditary
Alternative Naming

Source of Authority
The authority of the Hornlord is derived from strength of will and mind.
