Herdlord
The Herdlord, in minotaur speech, simply means "leader of the herd", which can cause confusion among races more used to gendered systems, particularly in the Cadlen Union. In fact, Herdlords are more often cows than bulls.
Qualifications
Chosen by election from the Elder Circle of the Herd, based on leadership ability and achievement.
Requirements
Sits on the Elder Circle, and is mentored by the previous Herdlord
Appointment
Once the Elder Circle puts forth a candidate, the existing Herdlord accepts the nomination and tutors the new Herdlord until the death of the previous. At this point the mentee becomes the Herdlord in full.
Duties
The moral duties of the Herdlord are the same as any head of state: to maintain the moral and spiritual health of their people.
Responsibilities
The Herdlord has the responsibility to look after the Herd, whether that is through the best food sources, shelter, trade, or warfare.
Benefits
The primary benefit is political power over the Herd and the ability to parley directly with other peoples.
Accoutrements & Equipment
Traditionally, the Herdlord receives the herd talisman, usually a necklace or other piece of wearable jewelry. Each Herdlord is obligated to add an item that represents them to the talisman.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
Should the Herdlord place the Herd in unnecessary danger, the Elder Circle may find them unfit and cast them out. Such a disgraced individual is allowed to stay in the herd, but is forever marked by their failure and watched accordingly.
