St Basil's Hammer

One of the five Artefacts of the Paragons, now named St Basil's Hammer, is still proudly on display in the Basilford History Museum. It can be recognized by the unique combination of the ancient Draconic make, still holding strong, with the fillagry of soul essence that took the patterns of leaves and ram's horns after it was claimed by St. Basil. Since it's use by St Basil in the War of Flames, it has not had another owner, hence the saint's name still being attached to the artefact. The same is not always true for the other artefacts gifted by Pariah.

The Hammer is thought to be the Artefact of Ingenuity. It first belonged to Cimbreto Nocorréra, the dragonborn smith of the Heroes of Light. While with him, this hammer helped fend off several foes and aided in the creation of useful weapons, such as the very first crossbow that could be wielded with one arm. The Hammer was only found once more when in 286 AFF the Tombs of the Paragons were discovered. Then it became known that the Heroes of Light had perished in the fight between Pariah and Rishanari, and Pariah had blessed them. They were entombed around the lake, and their soul essence captured in five artefacts that they held dear.

This is the artefact that the second Paragon of Ingenuity, the human St. Basil, retrieved after Pariah chose him. Basil the younger (not to be confused with his father Basil the older, the religious leader that founded Basilford), used the hammer not as a direct weapon against the fiendish foes, but as a tool to bolster defenses and create traps, after which the power of the soul essence was used to banish them back to the Lower Planes. The Hammer was also one of the more efficient artefacts in destroying the ostiumite portals in the Blackflame Gulch.
