Flamel Group Inc.
One of the most, if not THE most controversial organisations in Concordia is the Flamel Group. Founded by the eponymous gnome inventor and engineer, Coco Flamel, it has grown to an empire of its own with more than twenty subdivisions. Each company under the Flamel Group specializes in the development and distribution of a product, ranging from fertilizer to alchemical substances, from stationary to cars, from enchanted items to weaponry. While it has contributed many inventions and luxuries to society, Flamel Group has also been involved in several scandals.
One of the events the Flamel Group was held responsible for was the Tulosa Massacre in 78 AFF. When Tulosa wanted to lay claim to the recently discovered Azurdoom ruins, Scarroton sent a mercenary force to invade the new settlement and forcefully take back control. This mission was led by captain Bai Po Ur-Za, a close associate of Coco Flamel herself. On top of that, Flamel provided the weaponry that the captain's troops used to set fires in the goblinoid slums outside of Tulosa. Between 500 and 1.200 sentients perished in this conflict, the overwhelming majority being goblinoids. In the aftermath, Scarroton re-established their power on Tulosa, and the Flamel Group bought the rights to excavate the Azurdoom ruins.
Almost a century later, in 161 AFF, Flamel Security cracked down hard on riots and protests organized by the extremist group Manpower. Although Manpower wanted to sabotage and destroy the factories that were erected during Concordia's industrial revolution, many of the people involved in the protests were peaceful but worried labourers, seeking to preserve their jobs and livelihoods.
In 283 AFF, Flamel Automations worked on mechanical bulettes to fight in the War of Flames. Their creations (called gorgons) were programmed to be capable of learning and choice, so they could autonomously improve and take care of their own survival. However, the herd of about 50 gorgons broke free from their restraints, seeing the war objectives of the Flamel Group as a threat to their existence. They still roam the Westernell countryside, sometimes menacing travellers. It should be noted that there have also been instances where these gorgons protected local farmers against threats.
Nevertheless, it is clear that the Flamel Group has been involved in the loss of many lives. The controversy of their continued existence is because of their products also having saved and improved countless lives. Some people attempt boycots to hold Flamel Group accountable for their crimes, while others praise them and deeply appreciate all that they have created for Concordia.
