The Rot

Feared by many in the world, the Rot is a horrible affliction that has spelled the ruin for many a family and even some nations. Despite it's prevalence and its potential to spell ruin for those that contract it, the afflictions origins are a mystery to scholar ands academics.

Symptoms

As it's name implies, the Rot causes those afflicted to suffer from oozing pustules and painful sores that give their flesh the appearance of a rotting corpse. These sores and pustules are extremely painful, even more so when touched.   Alongside the more physical symptoms, those afflicted by the Rot have also been observed to degrade mentally to a state unlike a rabid beast. Whether this is due to a part of the disease or due to psychological factors relating to appearing like a rotting corpse is unknown.

Transmission

The Rot is an extremely virulent disease. A victim need only have a small portion of infected fluids enter their body to begin suffering the effects.

Rotters

Those unfortunate souls that have been afflicted by the Rot and fallen to the madness that all to often accompanies it are known as rotters. Little more than slathering beasts, rotters roam the slums and ghettos where the Rot is prevalent and, in areas heavily afflicted by the disease, the countryside.   They have lost any semblance of sanity. Attacking any who do not share their affliction ferociously. Due to the viral nature of the Rot, this often leads to others being infected.

Cures

There are many remedies and potions that claim to cure the Rot, though none of these are widely circulated or even a certainty. For the vast majority of people in the world, the only cure to the Rot is a quick death. There are some claims that individuals in the early stages of the Rot have been cured of their affliction at The Blessed Goddesses in Avithorium.
