Sand Elves

The Sand Elves of the Ishalla Desert are a mysterious people. Few survive the Great Expanse let alone live within it. Yet, the Sand Elves do so and leave freely in a way that no other group can. Hardy survivors of an lost civilization with an ancient history and culture, the Sand Elves oft resemble a wandering museum rather than a culture in of itself.

History

A product of the magical event that brought the elves to the world, the sand elves are the remains of a long forgotten kingdom that was forced into the world. The resulting magical energies of the elves' arrival rent the world asunder rearranging continents and significantly altering the landscape of certain areas. The Ishalla Desert is one such place. Though none alive can remember a time when it wasn't how it was, most who knew of it before cannot escape the feeling that it was indeed once different. The Sand Elves are amongst those with an unmistakable feeling of loss; for they lost their home as they were thrust into the middle of an arcane wasteland.

Description

Tall and graceful, as any other elf, the Sand Elves have a ruddier skin tone than their northern kin due to the many years beneath the beating desert sun. They characteristically have dark black or brown hair and bronze or silver eyes.

Culture

Shared customary codes and values

Life in the Ishalla Desert is hard if everyone works together, it is nearly impossible if one seeks to gain at the expense of others. This has made Sand Elven culture one of extreme loyalty and very little tolerance for thieves and layabouts. Those that can help are lauded and cherished. Those that cannot are cared for and protected. Those that will not are shunned or punished.

Common Dress code

The heat of the Ishalla Desert requires that many Sand Elves dress in light, breathable linen clothes woven from desert flax. It is not uncommon for desert elves to show little to no skin during the day to keep safe from the sun.
