Bloombriar Forest

Encompassing a long stretch of the River Galern's southern banks, the Bloombriar Forest's roots take hold from the surrounding grasslands and hills.

Geography

The Bloombriar forest is a massive old-growth temperate forest along the south-western reaches of the River Galern. The trees grow tightly together making the ground within a mess of roots and undergrowth broken up by patches of open grass that make the forest notoriously difficult to navigate.

River Galern

The Galern nourish the forest with fresh water as it flows southward toward the bay. At several points it flows into waterfalls little more than a few feet of the ground. For the majority of it's length within the forest it is nearly 700 feet wide, though it is fed by countless small streams and brooks throughout that fail to compare to it's width.

Fauna & Flora

Myriad creatures can be found within the Bloombriar Forest. Large numbers of wild deer and boar as well as small woodland creatures, such as rabbits and squirrels, roam the Bloombriar, the gentle river and ample food provide a picturesque habitat for many animals. There is also a small population of wolves and bears that hunt the other animals of the forest.
The forest is also home to many plants that can be expected from such forests, but most notably is the Bloombriar from which the forest derives its name. The forest is the only known place to find naturally occurring Bloombriar plants.   The existence of the miraculous Bloombriar within the woods has inspired countless legends of pixies and faeries living within the woods along with their more malicious fae-kin. The fear of these diminutive beings and their larger kin have bestowed a mysterious air to the Bloombriar Forest, and locals have uncountable superstitions dealing with keeping their fae neighbors placated.

Natural Resources

For thousands of years the people living near the Briarbloom forest have living in harmony with the forest and it's inhabitants. The reaches of the trees used to be much farther afield before settlers moved in and began clearing the trees at the forest's edge—giving it the shape it has today. Beyond timber, the forest also provides game for those brave enough to venture into the twisting root filled forest paths. All of that pales in comparison to the benefit of bloombriar, however, whose shoots can be ground into potions and remedies with miraculous curative properties.
