The Mother’s Crown

The Mother’s Crown was the crown worn by the queens of Marana during their weddings, coronations and other key events. The crown hold large amounts of history as it is estimated that up to 204 Maranian queens wore the crown.   The crown is made out of three main parts, the two sides and the back. The two sides are practically identical with the exception of the two crest that dangle from golden chains. On the left side the crest of the Maranian royal family is permanently set in gold and on the other side is a now empty gold container that would have held the house crest of the queen. The back of the crown is much more complex and hold motifs like flowers, suns, and symbols of ^She^, the goddess of the sun and fertility of the Maranian people. The crown is said to contain roughly 400 different jewels and crystals as well as around an entire lark of fine gold strands creating an intricate woven design.   The name of the crown is said to stem from the original queen who commissioned the crown. The view Maranian records say that the crown was commissioned by the third Queen of Marana, Queen Roaent Mestara. She was said to have commissioned the crown for her wedding in honor of her grandmother, the first queen of Marana, who was commonly called the Queen Mother. Some historians argue that the crown was in fact called the Mother’s Crown because it was worn by the queen, the mother to the next ruler, which may have also been a contributing factor into the reason the crown’s name was so well documented.   The Mother’s Crown is surrounded with lots of stories, one of the most famous being the execution of the final Maranian queen. On the day of her execution the queen, who’s name is unknown due to the poor keeping of records during the war, wore a ruby red dress adorned with large dark crystals around her collarbone, her wedding necklace, black shoes, and the Mother’s Crown*. It is said (though it can’t be confirmed and could just be storytelling) the crown fell off her head when the sword came down on her neck and landed in the hands of one of the city folk.   The crown is currently being held in the Voxen Museum of History  in its original box though it is not currently on display, but you can find an image of it in the Maranian exhibit.   *: We can confirm what the queen was wearing on the day of her execution as she was painted in the same outfit by numerous painters that attended the execution. The most famous painting of the execution being the Murder of the False Queen by Ared W. Rerhf, which can be seen in the Voxen Museum in the Maranian exhibit.
