Portals in Fantasme Imagination | World Anvil

Portals

Now you're thinking with portals.

Portals are a phenomenon where a hole tears the fabric of of reality that holds all of the dimensions together.

Fantasme - New Earth Portals

These portals are specifically the ones that open between The Fantasme and New Earth. These open naturally due to the imbalance of mana levels between the two. Like a ballon, the mana puts pressure on the dimensional barrier until it gives and tears, releasing a large rush of mana the area.

Historical Significance

The portals have existed for thousands of years, and the Fantasmians have always known about them, but have also done their best to hide them from humans. It is through these portals where Fantasmian creatures would sneak into New Earth. This resulted in Fantasme and New Earth have similar cultures, architecture and technology for a long time.
On the other side, occasionally Fantasmian creatures such as dragons, unicorns and fae would be spotted on New Earth, sparking legends and folklore about them on Earth.
Due to their rarity, they are quite unreliable, and attempts to open them manually have been made before, with varying results. The ritual to pull them off successfully has only been completed once, before it was lost to time. It's said that after the The Hundreds Year War a portal was successfully opened to hide away one of the The Goddess Weapons, and ever since, mages have been trying to recreate this process.

The Closing of the Portals

Around the early 1700's the Mage's Council of Falle Anor made a grim discovery about the portals. They realized the frequency of portal openings were going to increase exponentially, meaning they would not only be difficult to manage, but they could potentially tear the barrier completely apart. As the council were thinking of a solution to preventing this, along came a young human mage by the name of Vahit with a proposal.
His idea was to open up a massive portal at the top of the Mage Tower of Falle Anor, giving the council access to a controlled portal that could be increasing and decreased in side to let out the appropriate amount of mana. Despite Vahit not getting rightful credit for the idea, the council agreed on the plan.
That night the Top of the Mage's Council would gather together to complete the spell, however Vahit, would inevitably sabotage these efforts, entering the portal alone and leaving the others to manage the now unstable portal on their own. The portal ended up causing an implosion and destroyed the top of the tower and wipe all life with in the city of Falle Anor. Similar to the Suhkorium indecent, Falle Anor started to sink, but since it was in the middle of a large island, the friction of the surrounded land managed to stop it from completely falling.

The Incedent of Revival Labs Facility B

Back in New Earth, a lab of scientist who had discovered the Fantasme began doing secret experiments to try to open a portal to it. The goal was to open a portal with out the use of magic, which they obviously didn't have access to. The experiment was held in the basement of Facility B. The experiment almost worked, but when the heavy influx of mana started to pour in, it began to mix in with their scientific equipment, which changed it into an unknown, noxious liquid that coated the entire testing floor, killing all the scientists involved. The facility was later abandoned.

Overworld and Underworld Portals

Portals to the Underworld and Overworld are more akin to temporary doors rather permanent entry ways like the Fantasme portals are. Underworld portals can be opened fairly easily with just a dark magic ritual, or simply even just a demonic key to open a very short lasting portal.
Portals to the Overworld theoretically would work the same way, however the only beings ever known to be able to open them are High Angels.
