Beastcia Species in Fantasme Imagination | World Anvil

Beastcia

Basic Information

Anatomy

Beastcia are related to Fae as the both descend from the Proto-fae species. Beastcia appear as humans with animal traits such as ears, tails, legs, wings, etc. They are born with powerful shapeshifting abilities, and can turn into their animal counterpart at will.   Like Fae, their eyes and hair/fur color can vary across a wide spectrum of colors, even those unnatural to the animal they embody. Beastcia are also born with colorful markings on their skin that appear similar to tattoos. When they change into their animal form, their coat color will mimic their hair color, and they will still have their markings on their fur. This makes beastcia easy to recognize in animal form.   There are 3 types of Beastcia that fall under the same species category.

Thirio

Thirio are the most common type of beastcia and the most abundant as well. They are recognizable for having the ears and tails of the animal they represent, such as those of wolves, rabbits, mice, bears, and other sorts of furry animals. They can also take on the appearance of Fantasmian exclusive mammals.   They occasionally have fangs, claws or different pupils, and lack human ears on the sides of their heads, but over all are the most human looking of the beastcia types. They tend to also be the shortest stature wise.   These beastcia tend to have better hearing and sense of smell then other races, which can be enhanced even further depending on what animal they are based on.

Faun

Faun are beastcia who have hooved feet and can be based on a number of hooved animals, such as deer, goats or horses. They are typically bipedal with animal legs reaching up to their around their mid-rift. Their legs are usually covered in a soft fur and they usually have tails.   Their upper half is mostly humanoid with only minor differences, often like the shape of their nose or their ears. Unlike Thirio, their ears rest on the side of their heads like a humans and usually has a small amount of fur on them. If they animal they are based on are capable of growing antlers or horns, so will they.   Fauns are closely related to Centaurs for a reason that will be explained further down.

Harpy

Harpies are the closest known relative to the original Proto-fae and have inherited many of their traits. They are likely the first beastcia to show up on the planet and date back long before Fae.   Harpies have no hair, but are covered in colorful feathers, some of which grow out of the head like hair. their torso's, arms and thighs are covered in small fluffy feathers while their wings and tail consist of larger, more vibrant ones. They have bird like talons instead of feet and a bead attacked to their jaw.   Their feathers make most of their markings hard to see until they use magic, which makes them glow.

Genetics and Reproduction

Beastcia can have sexual relations with other races and reproduce with them, however, strange results tend to occur when they have children with non-beastcia.   A beastcia child only occurs if both parents are beastcia, but if one is a fae or a human, there is a 25% chance the child will inherit the magic beast gene and transform into a centaur in the womb. If it's with a Faun, the chance is increased to 50%. Unfortunately, this makes child birth fatal to the mother. If the child does not inherit genes from the beastcia gene, they will just be born the race of the other parent, but may inherit a specialization in the Transformation Magic branch.   There is an myth that Harpies lay eggs, however this is untrue and will have live birth just like any humanoid race. This myth is considered insulting to bring up in front of them.

Growth Rate & Stages

Beastcia grow at the same rate as Fae or humans and in pretty much the same way. They are usually born with most of their animal traits from the beginning. Faun won't grow antlers or horns until puberty, and Harpies are usually bald when they are first born but grow their feathers with in the first month after being born.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They are still omnivores and will eat basically anything a human or elf will eat, but will have a preference to food their species eats, such as meat for wolves or vegetables for rabbits. Some beastcia can digest things that humans cannot like grass or raw meat.

Biological Cycle

Few Beastcia actually change much for the seasons. Their fur acts more like human hair and their coat doesnt change at all.

Civilization and Culture

Beauty Ideals

Beauty standards very between different types of Beastcia. Some look for physical attributes, like large antlers, vibrant feathers, or long fluffy tails. While others perfer picking a mate based on talent, such as being very strong or having a high proficiency in magic. Their type of animal may also be a factor, as some beastcia have preferences for certain types of animals, and a mate matching one of their favorites may be significantly more attractive.

Courtship Ideals

Beastcia tend to woo their mates through performance. Whether it be with a dance, song on an instrument, showing off a beautiful flashy outfit, or even competing in sports or 'faux fighting' with competition. Entertaining a significant other is usually the fastest way to their heart.   When two Beastcia are committed to each other, they will tattoo a matching design on the back of their hands, typically with the same ones they use to hold hands.

History

Like Fae, Beascia have existed on the floating isles for millenia, even during the Fused Earth fused Earth era, making them one of the oldest races in the Fantasme. While Fae spread around the planet, Beastcia didn't venture far from their home territory, which would later become the Lilihum Islands. The Beastcia were a more anti-social, isolated race of people and tended to not like interacting with other groups of leaving their home.     They eventually founded their home country of Lilihum where they worked together to build a civilized society and develop their magic.

Attained Technological Level

Beastcia dislike the idea of using modern technology, and tend to live very simplistic lives, even for the Fantasme. They prefer remaining more tribal and minimalistic. Due to their poor relations with The Empire, they also refuse to trade with them, meaning they don't have access to some modern amenities.

Inter-species Relations

Beastcia have a poor relationship with most other races. The Beastcia see themselves as superior to other races in strength, intelligence and magic. They insist the floating isles were designed for them and believe they are entitled to the land. While they tolerate Fairies, they hate humans for lacking magic, elves for being mix breeds, and centaurs for being freaks.   Obviously not every Beastcia has these believes, but it tends to be the most common mentality to have.

Culture and Customs

Beastcia are a very isolated race who are very spiritual and attuned to magic. They believe their powers are granted to them by the 'Wild Gods', ethereal animal beings believed to be the source of magic. It's believed Bestcia are assigned a god at birth, based on the creature they can turn into. Beastcia will become very attached to their spirit animal and will refuse to kill or eat said animal, and will be made uncomfortable is someone does so around them.   The beastcia are able to alter their markings by tattooing themselves with a magical ink. This is usually down for special ceremonies, like coming of age, marriage or important promotions.

Taboos

One of the worst things you can do to a beascia kill one of their own, or maliciously kill their spirit animal. Leaving the head of their animal in front of their house is considered an act of aggression, basically threatening to kill them. Most Beastcia will respond by trying to defend themselves and kill the harrassing part first, or they will curse them.   Hunting Beasctia while in their animal forms is also considered a horrendous crime, and even if done on accident, will often be met with harsh, gruesome punishments.

Language

While most Beastcia can speak English, they can also have their own language known as Beast Speak. Beast speak has yet to ever be properly translated fully to Engish, as it's used as a secretive form a communication between the beastcia. As well, it's believed beast speak can be used to communicate with animals as well, as they are frequently seen communing with animals in the language, and the animals seem to understand them.
