Vesper
The Vespers are a race of Elder Thing that exist for a single minded purpose of consuming sources of intense ether or aetheric magic they can take from the other realms. Their single minded pursuit is a result of an instinct to rid the world of magic having been wrought from the ideology that magic should not exist. Their sentience or lack thereof is a subject for debate as is the specifics of how magic is actually drained but their efficiency at their task is unparalleled. They regularly make excursion to the mortal realm in particular for etheric magic sources they drain, store, and return to the eldritch realm and hold it within them until it is gradually converted to void.
Vesper forms are varied but their most observed appearance is that of a mass of oily black tendrils around a central sphere that slowly inflates as it fills with more and more etheric or aetheric magics until the vesper returns to the void sea.
It should be noted that the upper capacity of a vespers capacity to store magic is indeterminate and as such may be cataclysmic threats to the mortal and immortal realms if a sufficient number were to enter.
Returning Vespers are sometimes captured by other inhabitants in the eldritch realm that seek to re-purpose the raw magical energies they harvest for their own needs and purposes.
It is unknown if Vespers have any other entity controlling them or some other source that directs them to the powerful magic sources they locate and drain.
Vespers are a prime example of the many single minded Elder Things that dwell in the eldritch realm, relentless in following their instinct with little regard for their own health and safety. I have noticed that some seem to display some rudimentary communication skills and cognitive functions above others so it seems there is some variability in their intelligence. I wonder what it is that sets these vespers apart from others? - M.N.
