Imperative Magic

Imperative Magic is a particular breed of magic born out of Harmonic Magic. Where Harmonic Magic uses songs and music to create magical effects, Imperative magic has reduced and refined it to be used in speech. Users can, purposefully or not, hide a singular note or string of notes with their voice, allowing them to produce magical effects quickly. However, its effects are simplistic and often limited in scope, only lasting as long as the words are spoken.   Because of its simplicity, however, many people can often miss out on the magic being done. A subtle user of Imperative magic can manipulate those around them with surprising ease. Applying pressure to cow someone more, adding an electric feeling in the air to energize them. Even less subtle users can benefit from the additional effect, adding flair to a speech and making them seem larger than they are.   In a combat scenario, it also works surprisingly well. The sudden and sharp command and simplistic effects often surprise most opponents. A twisting force on a leg, a push on the arm, a pull on a weapon, a cutting force to a vital point, or an invisible attack by an Imperative command is often quite effective in combat.   Where it suffers, however, is in its ability to scale, its short lifespan, and its lack of complexity. While simple forces, lights, or effects can be made easily enough. Its lack of scale comes from both its higher average cost in mana as well as the difficulty of coordinating large numbers of people in effect. Because it is just a single command or short string of notes, it has difficulty surviving longer. Like all Harmonic Magic, the music must continue for its effect to continue. Its lack of complexity can be covered up a bit. Still, as the complexity of a spell is heavily correlated to both the length and complexity of the music involved, it can be difficult to do more complex things with it.

Utility

It is most commonly used for social purposes. While it can be used for various effects, its limited flexibility makes it best for sudden or simple effects. Often it's used to awe or shock others, applying literal pressure to make them believe one is stronger or creating an 'electric' feeling to energize people. Occasionally, users will use it for things like pushing or pulling objects or people for various purposes.   The most adept users can use these simple tools, making them seem powerful as objects hop across the room and into their hands.

Social Impact

The mastery of this art has particularly benefited powerful leaders. Capable users of Imperative Magic often become famous orators and speakers.
Access & Availability
While hardly a secret, the most common users tend to be powerful people like Monarchs and other political leaders who need to project force or charisma. It's limitation in range of effect also makes it less popular in general, making it's study rather rare.
Complexity
Very Low Complexity. While simpler in physical technique than Harmonic Magic, it require a strong will and control of emotions to make proper use of it.
Discovery
Developed in paralell by many powerful speakers and well trained Cantors around the world.
