The Orion Spur
The Orion Spur, birthplace of a species that ruled us all for a thousand years. A mighty people brought low by pestilence. Those mighty people were not Weren, boy, but they were more dangerous than a Kel'decar. The former Human empire once ruled the entire Orion Spur in addition to some parts of the Perseus and Sagittarius. The Empire subjugated several species that they came across during their nine hundred year reign using devices called Perfection engines, deceptively named devices which inhibited many species brain functions.
Expansion
During the early colonisation era of the Empire, many worlds were colonised, while most were not earth-like, they were still suitable enough to sustain environmentally controlled cities and settlements. If systems were unable to support life but able to provide resources to the empire, they were colonised with large space stations which only grew larger throughout the the later Imperial Stablisation era. Through rapid colonisation and accelerated growth chambers, the Human race spread throughout the sector like an ever expanding plague, soon numbering in the trillions while other races only numbered in the billions. This rapid expansion brought about logistical issues with the systems that could not reliably produce their own food, even with hydroponics and long term deep storage. Human ingenuity, however, is ever driven forward by adversity and with the study of a place called The Foundry, the empire soon developed two types of technology that were well beyond their wildest imaginings.Singularity Power

Man, this reminds me of Stellaris and a video about how to get unlimited energy from black holes. I can't even imagine the total dimension of power aquired with such technology. Makes me... afraid.
I might have to make that something of a legend or rumour whispered among the now populace with the downfall of the Old Empire, that they did have a few things like Black Hole bombs. Thank you for mentioning that video, it was quite intriguing :) https://kottke.org/18/04/how-to-harvest-nearly-infinite-energy-from-a-spinning-black-hole
