Trentenkirk

Trentenkirk is a bustling trade town nestled into the cross of the Gold Road and Long Pass that connects the Empire to the Lower Kingdoms to the south and the Sembian Kingdom to the east. Although it's not as large as Oberrun to the north of it, it holds it's own on the cusp between a farming village and merchants haven.

Defences

As with any town, village, or city in the Empire, a local Field Warden and trained soldiers are stationed within the boundaries to enforce the law. Unlike the smaller towns, Trentenkirk has a set gate and low wall surrounding it. Although the wall itself won't protect from any actual force that means harm, it does keep out the local wildlife as well as mark the boundaries of the town itself compared to the farming land that surrounds it in the grassy hills around.   Nearby is the Night's Eye Fortress that has fallen into disuse and disrepair since the Calamity. At one time it acted as highly active outposting for soldiers containing not only housing and amenities for the local forces but also was large enough to have a few small stalls as well as a temple dedicated to the gods Tyr, Torm, and Ilmater before the Empire split the worship of the Triad as a single entity and outlawed the worship of Ilmater and Tyr.

Industry & Trade

This bustling village thrives off a combination of standard local farmers who have spread through the nearby hills as well as passing merchant caravans on their way into the heart of the Empire to Oberrun or Evertar or heading out to the Lower Kingdoms or east toward the Sembian Kingdom. The Dalis Society here makes for a convient stopping point to potentially offload left over merchandise or pick up oddities from other caravans coming through.

Assets

Located in the town are a number of shops beyond the general store one would find in smaller nearby places. Included in the local market is the standard found Hightower Goods and Dalis Society, along with those staples is also:
  • The Farmer's Arms - The local inn: This cozy inn is run by a lithe blond haired elf by the name of Elar Sunrunner. Frequented by local farmers and passing traders the patrons seem to idle their time with gossip on dealers that pass through hoping to get a good deal from merchants who are less than in their faculties during their stay.
  • The Burning Bottle - A local alchemist: A small, quaint herbalists shop run by a mossy old rock gnome who goes by the name of Loryn. The shop itself has a hazy smell of moss and dirt with various plants lining troughs and crowding the walls. Here you can find a collect of ingredients for a customers alchemical creations as well as, more commonly bought, potions themselves.
  • Millie's Magical and Mundane Curios - An odd shop of curios and knickknacks: This shop is run by a pair of twin halfling sisters named Millie and Mollie Palesbe. Collectors of curiosities that the travelers bring through their shop, the stock is a hodgepodge of a few magical items with various intriguing trinkets from other lands that the sisters found interesting.

History

Trentenkirk was established as a small town harboring those who were looking to escape the initial upheaval when the Titans rose during the Calamity. Although Oberrun holds the honor of being the "birthplace" of the Empire where the first true settlement started, Trentenkirk is seen by some as the home of the proto-Empire where Saint Galder guarded those who took refuge there with the Night's Eye Fortress nearby where a host of forces were housed during that time. Due to the efforts and guardianship of Galder the Church of Silvanus was allotted space to cultivate a Grove for worship in both the God and Saint's honor.   Over the course of the spanning decades after the Calamity the town turned into a small trade hub as a connector between the Lower and Sembian Kingdoms as goods traveled into the heart of the Empire. The Night's Eye fell into disrepair and disuse falling to the elements around it as Empire forces preferred to establish themselves in town proper to better protect its inhabitants, instead sending out scout patrols when necessary.
