Markus Hardstone

Markus Hardstone is the owner of the local mine in Lillyhall employing many of the people in town to work it. He is a hard business man and has kept much of the town afloat with its iron exports from the mine, many times loaning money to residents for repairs, food, clothes, or anything else as needed.

Employment

Markus worked his younger years as a mercenary and caravan guard on the road sending what money he could back to his parents. After spending time with various merchants and traders gaining contacts across both The Empire and Lower Kingdoms he stopped his guarding work and came back to his failing hometown to try to reopen the mine and revive Lillyhall. Once the mine was found to be producing again he hired on many farmers in the area to be miners who now have a strong loyalty to the man as he has saved them from certain poverty and brought the town back from the brink.

Mental Trauma

During his years away from Lillyhall his family tried to reestablish themselves ihowever the town was small, unprotected, and failing. Eventually he came back home only to find that the town had been raided by a goblin clan who had wandered in from the Southwood, pushed out by the growing orc clan in the area. In their panic they had killed and raided many of the residents, including his parents. Although the town eventually came to terms with what had happened, Markus never forgave himself for being away and holds a long lasting prejudice against goblin and orc-kind.

Family Ties

Markus' parents and extended family has long since passed from this world, but he has made his own family in Lillyhall including Olma, his wife, and four children: Elijah and Amalia, five year old twins; Markus Junior, sixteen; and Tennadia, nineteen.

Although not rich by city standards, Markus is wealthy compared to others in the town and owns one of its largest homes.
