Rose, Rumor, Wave, Weave V

Temerity knew she wasn't good at this. The baby was crying again, and all she could think to do was bounce her.
"Shh, shh, shh… Come on now…" she said, looking at her daughter pleadingly. "I have no idea why you cry so much… You've got to work with me here…" She sighed. "I bet your father would know exactly what to do."
The baby quieted a bit, the crying turning into quiet gurgling.
"Now you stop crying? Do you like hearing about your father?" Temerity asked, one eyebrow raised. "All right, then. Let's see… Your father… Was a very important person. Back where we're from, he was the emperor. Which is… The person who's pretty much in charge of everything. And he-" She stopped for a moment and closed her eyes. "He loved both of us very, very much." She smiled. "Especially you. You hear me? He loved you so, so much, and don't let anyone try to tell you different. No matter what anyone else says about your father, he loved you. He would've fought the whole world for you if he needed to. Okay?"
The baby latched onto her finger. Temerity laughed a bit, then heard a quiet knock on the door. She turned and saw Ripple in the doorway.
"Just got back," Ripple said, a wide grin on her face. "Heard the kiddo finally decided to show her face."
Temerity nodded and beckoned Ripple over. "She's a crier. Just got her to stop, actually."
Ripple looked over Temerity's shoulder at the baby. "Must've known I was coming. Wanted to make a good first impression." She smiled at the baby. "She's beautiful. Have you picked out a name?"
"Taziel. After my sister," Temerity said.
Ripple gently reached for one of Taziel's hands. "Hey there, little Tazi. You're a real sweetheart, aren't you?"
Taziel latched onto Ripple's finger with her other hand, a tiny smile appearing on her face.
"She likes you," Temerity said amusedly. "More than she likes me, I think."
"Of course she does. I'm awesome. And I'll teach you all about how you can be awesome too, hmm, kiddo? And your mama will teach you about where you come from, and your Aunt Mirage will teach you about all her spooky stuff, and Aunt Jin will teach you about… Scowling, probably. I expect I'll be your favorite. I'm pretty much everyone’s favorite."
Temerity laughed. "All right, that's enough of that. I think it's a bit early for you to be turning my daughter against me."
Ripple saluted. "Aye-aye. I'll leave you two alone." She grinned and poked Taziel's cheek. "See you later, kiddo. Don't be too hard on your mama."
Temerity sighed as Ripple left the room. "That was your Aunt Ripple. Just between you and me, she probably will be your favorite." She smiled. "But I'll always be the one who loves you the most."
